Re: Castle Doctrine HB 40 in 09 does anyone REALLY want this passed? If so please re
A quick thanks to all those here for their efforts in pushing the extremely important HB40 forward. The average “joe on the street” has absolutely no idea how hard you have fought for their rights. Most people think if they were defending themselves and not charged with a crime that they’re free and clear. Very few are even aware that this bill existed. Until I became a member here last year I was unaware myself. I don’t get to browse the forums very often and without the “heads-up” email I received from PAFOA last week I would not have known of its impending votes and the need to push my representative and others across the state (which I indeed did!). Great job! Fingers crossed for the bill's next hurdle.

Re: Castle Doctrine HB 40 in 09 does anyone REALLY want this passed? If so please re
Nice work everybody! I love how Evans and Co. tried to reframe the debate at the last minute into a "violation of their right to free speech" because there was no debate on the bill. If they wanted debate, I guess they should've drummed up more support to oppose yesterday's motion; they had their chance, and have suppressed this bill for years. Tonight was the death throes of their antigun effort.
However, with some of the animosity I saw tonight (albeit much of it was manufactured), expect them to try and find a way to stop this. The most important thing we can do now is get this passed through the Senate with NO AMENDMENTS, just like we did in the House. If HB40 is amended in the Senate, it will have to come back to the House for concurrence, and the usual suspects will sink their claws in. We can't let that happen.
As always, WhiteFeather will provide details once they are available. However, starting to contact the Senators now won't hurt IMHO. Just understand, as WhiteFeather stated awhile back, that the Senators work differently than the Reps. They require a more "personal" touch, so faxes, letters, and phone calls are the way to go. That doesn't mean we shouldn't send email, we all definitely should. However, we need to heavily supplement said email with the other forms of communication.
In addition to contacting Senators, please, Please, PLEASE make sure to send a THANK YOU to all the reps who voted in favor of this bill. We need to make sure they understand that their efforts did not go unnoticed.
Good work everyone, and thanks to WhiteFeather, Kim Stolfer, and others at the ASCL/FOAC for helping to coordinate and lead this effort. We're not done yet, but this was a good day.
One last thing: I received this email from RoseMarie Swanger as the bill was being passed:
We are on the House floor right now, waiting to take the final vote on a clean bill with no amendments. However, a motion to adjourn has just been made, which takes precedence. Members are apparently looking to debate, which should not happen, as a motion was passed to move the previous question. The motion to adjourn just failed, and HB 40 was passed 159-30!!! I did.
