Default What's a good .22 pistol for target shooting for under $500?

Looking for something accurate. 6+" barrel. How is the Sig Trailside?

We got our Ruger MK III Hunter for under $500. It's a beautiful gun...

    :-)

Disassembly is a bit of a pain though. But great learning experience. I put competition grips on it. Very nice combo...

Yes, couldnt have said it better. They dont just make a Hunter though and you can get the Ruger Mark III Competition/Target model and it comes with those grips. Its an awesome gun. Stay clear from the 22/45 models though, unless you like very slim grips or want to do some handiwork to put 1911 grips on it stay clear.

Ditto on the Ruger Mark series .22's. I like my Mark 1 bull barrel I picked up used about 25 years ago for $75. Cheap, and fun to shoot. Also it is a pretty accurate gun to start with out of the box. Most of the Ruger heavy barrels can be had between $200-$300 used.

I'm going to be the odd man out and say browning buckmark. I just picked up the "contour" model with a 7 1/4" barrel and it rocks!

I got a Browning Buckmark $325, my favorite pistol. Accurate, the grip is awesome, very reliable. I actually like the cheaper rubber grip the wood grip didn't feel as good. I've put at least 2k rounds through it with no problems other than cheap ammo. I just installed fiber optic sight and they make a huge difference. If you get one I reccomend the fiber optic sights. They are pretty easy to take apart, you only need to take out two allen bolts. Basic cleaning it's really not necessary to take the gun apart.

The only reason I bought a Browning instead of a Ruger was I liked the style and the grip better, other than that they are both top notch 22's. I've heard mixed reviews about the S&W and the Beretta. The SIG misquito I've heard mostly bad things, I've never shot any of these but just what I've heard.

I got rid of my Sig Mosquito because it was a jam-o-matic. I like Sig products but this was not one of them. Even with CCI mini-mags and the heavy spring it would jam like crazy. My buckmark is much better.

I have a Smith 622 and love it. Very accurate, has never jammed in the 15 years I've had it. I'll admit it's nothing to look at, but it shoots like hell.

Check out the Brownings, that is what I'll be picking up soon.
I've read a lot of good and very very little bad about them for the price.
