Default Need a tour guide this Sunday !!!!! Lancaster /York Co

Ok everyone , by now I think most everyone knows we were planning to move the clan over to PA as soon as practical . Well things are accelerating a tad , what with the recent discovery of a baby coming , plus some positive job leads , we would like to pull it off in the next 90 days if possible .

Problem is we know NOTHING about PA , outside Philly proper . We do know we have pretty much decided on somewhere in Lancaster/York County Area , no more then 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours commute to Center City and the bridges .

Wife and I want to drive over this Sunday 4/5/09 to start scouting for a rental house /neighborhood . So we need a tour guide so we're not just wandering around aimlessly wasting time and gas . My biggest fear is being 5 miles from ouridea of Nirvana , and not knowing better until after we settle on something else .

We're basically looking for a minimum 3 bedroom rental home , semi -rural , in a decent school district , within a normal commute of shopping ,local colleges , gun clubs , etc . In other words , I would like to find enough land to keep the neighbors a good distance away , but not so isolated that its a 20 min drive to get to WaWa either .

I've talked to a couple Realtors last week and was frankly shocked when they told me that Realtors in PA only handle buying/selling ,not rental homes . The only thing they could suggest was looking in local papers , which doesnt do me a helluva lot of good from behind the Iron Curtain .

My job prospects will likely be either in Harrisburg , the suburbs of Philly , or possibly in the County if Im lucky enough to get picked up by the Sheriffs Dept .

So anyway , I know its really short notice , but if anyone wants to play tour guide this Sunday , and help some really nice people planning their escape fro the PSRNJ , please let me know . Or if anyone has friends /family that have a place to rent , or are involved in Real Estate that would be greatly appreciated also !!

    Thanks Guys/Gals ,

    Dan /Steph

Which ever one will take me !! LOL . No seriously , I've been chasing a LEO career for sometime . At this point its an impossibility in NJ . Once your over age 35 you can forget it . Their excuse is always the pension system and not being able to get your twenty in before age 55

That plus even for small towns you need a Bachelors Degree , a " sponsorship " by the town to go to the Academy , etc , etc .

I checked the County web Sites and it looks like York and Lancaster are both hiring Deputies . I am working on my degree its just not finished yet . And from what I could see on the Sheriffs Website's for the requirements , I meet or exceed everyone of them . So......................................

Yeah a lot of the Fed side of LE is the same way, but their cut off is 37, except for BP. They got a waiver and its now 40.

Yes York County wants to hire 20 deputies and they have been trying to for a few months now. Think they got the approval a 4-6 months back. I looked into it and said: "Not only no, but hell no.".

Just move to Pittsburgh and get a job. Greatest gun club in the state is out this way, monthly pafoa shoot, friendly people and less gun grabbing jackasses.
