Neck sizing with a FL die
I saw how to to do this, but can't find it.
How do you neck size with a FL die?

Re: Neck sizing with a FL die
Turn the sizing die up about 1/16" so it doesn't make contact with the shoulder of the case. It won't size the neck all the way to the shoulder but it will size it plenty to give it enough tension to hold the bullet.
I made some 1/16" spacers specifically for that purpose. I can take the die out of the press, insert a spacer, put the die back in and tighten it as normal.
The neck gets sized the way I want without moving the adjustment ring on the die.

Re: Neck sizing with a FL die
First screw the die in until it touches the shell holder when the ram is raised to it's highest point. Then back the die out about 1/2 turn. A fired cartridge case that is tight in the chamber is then lubed and resized, then tried in the chamber. If the breech mechanism closes with difficulty, the die is turned in (closer to the shell holder) and the case is resized, the tried again until the breech mechanism closes freely on the case. Once set lock the die in place.
Note this method is most applicable if you're reloading for a particular rifle, since you are effectively "finding and setting" a custom headspce. Use full length resizing if you're loading for several rifles of the same caliber.
