    Default 5.11 tactical pants

Does anyone have or has had a pair of 5.11 tactical pants?

    http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Ho...:10101/I/74273

Just wondering what you think of them.

5.11 pants ride a little low.

I just ordered some Propper International Rip Stop BDU's. I hope they ride as low.

Yes if you're in a training class say with a dozen other students, you don't want to wait for people to keep running back to charge their magazines. With BDU's you can put 50 rounds in each pocket and keep shooting for a long time. Every time the shooting stops and the instructors talk, you charge your magazines. BDU's save time in training.

I dont have any issues sliding 4 full 1911 mags into one of my back pockets.
I can easily put a few in any pocket at 8 rounds a piece, and full box of ammo alone can go in a rear pocket, just sticks out.
and I wear a single pouch, and have a double I can add on if needed.
    I have "cargo" pants too.
so............ not really following you on this one.

i think he might have been asking about the difference in BDUs vs. "cargo pants" you can get at walmart for $15. dunno though...

personally, i'm waiting for the likes of 5.11, Propper, etc. to wake up and realize...

COTTON HAS NO FRICKIN' PLACE IN CLOTHES MADE FOR ANY KIND OF ACTUAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY [/end rant]

(seriously, though, these companies need to hire a few key people away from patagonia, columbia, the north face, etc. they get it. why don't the likes of 5.11? )

good question...in my experience, it depends on the actual pants in question.

some BDUs are heavier and more rugged than typical "cargo pants".

some are made only partially of cotton instead of completely of cotton (a step in the right direction, but they still have some cotton).

some have different pocket configurations which are geared more specifically toward carrying magazines, knives, flashlights, etc.

some have drain holes in the pockets (which is kind of ironic given their cotton content)

some have drawstrings at the bottom of the pant legs.

in many cases, though, there is no real difference.

i personally just go with the cargo pants from walmart. now, if i ever find a decent set of BDUs that contains no cotton and is still rugged, i would likely be willing to pay $50 for them. (there are some pants made by the likes of patagonia, etc. that come close, but they tend to have less than optimal pocket configurations, imho. also, i have far from completely scoured the market, so there may be something out there i don't know about.)
