Arlen Specter pulls support for " Card Check "
As the Title suggests , Arlen Specter today has publicly pulled his support for the Union " card check " movement . Think he's started feeling the heat over his controversial vote in support of the Bailout given that this is an election year ? Seems like he's running for political cover . Thoughts ???

It's a good move, he (should be) done and I won't vote for him agian. He received a letter from me asking him not to support this bill.
That said, I hope he does not receive allot of email saying that this vote, albeit correct, will not help him in his bid for re-election. This could prompt a "spite" vote from him the other way. He is the swing vote afterall.Politicians who fear the people seek to disarm them.
People who fear their government's intentions refuse to be disarmed.

What a useless human being. He blew it with his consistent liberal voting record. The fact that he initially supported legalized extortion should be enough to end his career as a republican. However, I think he would stand a great chance of success on the D ticket.

Re: Arlen Specter pulls support for " Card Check "
He never supported it. He simply voted on a cloture vote he knew would fail. Typical Specter-- trying to play both sides. When he knew it didn't matter because (a) the Dems didn't have the votes and (b) Bush would veto anyways, he voted for cloture to appease his union supporters. Then when it does matter b/c he's the swing vote, he says he won't vote for cloture to appease his business supporters because he knows if he does that's the final nail in his coffin come the primaries.
He never cared one way or the other. He was gaming it the whole time. Up until that press release I bet you he was weighing the costs in the primary vs. the costs in the general and whether or not to stay GOP. Despite his comments to the contrary, you know he was. Ultimately he must have decided (a) he fears the business lobby more than the union lobby and (b) better to stick with the GOP and take his chances in the general vs. the primary."When law becomes despotic, morals are relaxed, and vice versa."-- Honore de Balzac, The Wild Ass's Skin...huh, huh..Balzac...Wild Ass...huh, huh

Rumor has it Toomey is going to make a run for his seat. Also, FedEx had it written into a jet purchase contract that if Congress passed the bill, they would cancel their order for 15 (and possibly 30) jets. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123791678454427343.html
