The .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol) is a shorter round than the .45 ACP. There are a few comparisons out there on Google with various subjective and objective findings. My gut tells me to suggest the .45 ACP as it's a more common caliber and will therefore be more available (and therefore, hopefully a bit more cost effective).

Found a little bit of info there:

IF YOUR ON THE RECIEVE END - YOU WOULD NOT KNOW THE DEFFERENCE.
The grip on the gap round is slimmer, so if you have small hands that might make a difference. Ammo on the net is about the same price wise.
Pick the one that feels best in your hand.

You can FIND the GAP ammo now.....mostly because there aren't many guns chambered in it. The only shelf that was full at Cabelas a week ago was the GAP shelf.

Unless there are more guns made for it, I'd avoid it...it is a specialty round without a lot of added benefit.

Goes bang and does what it is intended.

Terrible round for those of us who are dedicated to the environmentally correct pursuit of making sure that old brass doesn't pollute the range and can be recycled into new cartridges thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport and production, environmental problems from mining and refining and are doing our best to allay the current ammo shortage. (Sounds better than I reload and am a brass scavenger.) I reload .45 ACP and keep picking up .45 GAP just in case I get one of those one day.

Now if I could only save the planet from people who through away .45 Colt.

I haven't seen any GAP ammo in my neck of the woods.
I might be wrong, but I think the GAP round will fall by the wayside in time. Just my opinion.

I've NEVER found a single 45 GAP empty brass on the ground, EVER. Not sure what that means, other than NOBODY shoots it, or if they do, they are very tidy ppl. I am also a reloader, and I love the 45 ACP round. It's very easy to reload, lots and lots of available brass/bullets/guns that shoot it. Would I ever get a 45 GAP? Probably not. No reason at all to.
