Safe ammo storage ideas
Looking for child-safe storage ideas/opinions for 2000 or so rounds of .22 and .40, as well as a few boxes of 20ga. shells. Something lockable that would be semi-permanently located in, say, a less-traveled corner of the basement. Thanks in advance//dave

Staples has all kinds of fire safes. Also a carpenter's metal tool box. Mechanic's tool chest.
Be safe.

some ammo cans out there do have places for padlocks.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Re: Safe ammo storage ideas
i had an old fridge that broke down, I cleaned it out and put in a goldenrod along w/ a rechargeable dehumidifier and it's worked out great. Ammo is warm as can be and it takes over a month for the dehumidifier to need recharged.

I have a 3 year old and never even thought of locking the ammo. Most are in ammo cases. But here are some options:

Re: Safe ammo storage ideas
I got all my ammo, mags and other fun things that go bang, in assorted ammo cans, .50 cal size and the one that 1/2 as wide. Anyway I got a old stand up (gym) metal locker with a solid front and keep them locked in there. Sure anyone who really wants to break in can. But it keep small hands out.

Any closet or container with even the most flimsy of locks is suitable for what you have in mind. A filing cabinet from one of the office supply stores would be cheap, easy and convenient.

Re: Safe ammo storage ideas
Thanks to all who responded with some good ideas and opinions. Keeping little hands out of the ammo is my biggest concern-the older ones know what it's all for, but it's still best to make it secure. Take care//dave
