    Default 1911 Recommendations

I am in the market for a new 1911 A1 and I am looking for recommendations on what is the best "bang" for the buck.

Rock Island Tactical (still hard to find)
    Taurus PT 1911 Stainless
    Springfiled Loaded Model

If I did the 1911 thing over again, I'd start with Springfield. I'd suggest trying to find a used Springfiled loaded model for your first 1911.
For a starter 1911 the only thing you really need is good sights and maybe a beaver tail safety.

Para Ordnance also makes a great 1911, but lately ther cost is going up and thier parakote finish isn't all that durable.

Buy Colt SnowXRacer, all the others are good but they are not Colts. None of my others compare to my Colts...then go from there. www.coltsmfg.com

Maybe one kinda like mine. But you can't have this one!

I was told a while back that if you're going to get a 1911 you should just go all out and get the one you want. However and whatever configurations you want on it, do it right the first time. I believe that is so true! It cost a good penny but it was well worth it!

I agree on the three listed above.

When you learn the platform and want to move up, then look into the semi customs.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really need to do my research though. I am new to the 1911 type of guns and still need to determine exactly what I want. But you all have provided me a good place to start.

Since you don't specify a price range, here are my current favorites in three catagories.

Low budget: Taurus PT1911. They all need trigger work, but come pretty much loaded and are nice, reliable shooters.

Mid range: SA Loaded. Again, usually benefit from some trigger work. OR, Para Ordnance PXT 1911 Single Stack Single Action. Generally good triggers and well made. Outstanding customer service.

High end, and in my opinion, the best overall "bang for the buck" in 1911s in any catagory:
Les Baer Custom Premier II. These are >100k rd workhorses, nothing more accurate, nothing more reliable, as well built and rugged as anything on the market. Not the finest finish in the industry, but darn good.

I started with a Charles Daly just to make sure that I wanted a 1911. Now I'm looking to upgrade to a Kimber in the next few weeks. The Charles Daly works quite well with ball ammo but very choosy with HP's. I'm not recommending that you get a Daly but it is a avenue that is open to you without putting a lot of money in something that you may not like after shooting a 1911 platform.

anything but a colt.... the taurus is nice cant beat the price.... or a springfield loaded a little more money but worth it... or if money is not an option a Wilson CQB, a Les Baer TRP, or a full on custom. but make sure you learn to use it and use it well......
