Deer rifles, my favorites
I've owned and used many rifles over the years, my 2 favorites weren't the most accurate or powerful I've owned but were light, short and powerful enough. They are #1 a Remington model 7 in .308 with a Leupold fixed 4x scope and #2 a Winchester 94AE with a Weaver K-2.5 scope. Both are great deer guns light, handy, and deadly if you hit well inside the ribs. For handiness nothing beats a model 94.

Re: Deer rifles, my favorites
My first deer rifle was a 100 year old savage 99 takedown model 30-30. It was a deer slayer. The gun I use now is a rem 700 30-06 with a leupold 3x9. Those are my 2 favorites.

Re: Deer rifles, my favorites
I've always been a sucker for a nice levergun. I've regretfully sold a few favorites over the years including a great little Marlin 1894 in .44 mag. with a short 16" barrel. My current favorite is a Marlin 1895 in 45/70. It wears an XS ghost sight set. I'm hoping to take it to the range in the morning to test a few new handloads.

Re: Deer rifles, my favorites
Seems we all have a couple favorites.
Mine is an old Rem 760 gamemaster in 30.06. I like the pumpgun the best.
Second is my Marlin 336 lever in 30.30. Great little rifle.
I handload for both.. 3X9 on 760 fixed 4 pwr on lever.

Re: Deer rifles, my favorites [ levergun]
Back in the late 70s or early 80s I had a Ruger .44auto carbine, you know, the one that looks like a 10-22, I shot 4 deer with it and they all fell on the spot. The range was only about 50 yds and the load was the Remington 240 grain SJHP, let me tell you, it was brutal.

Re: Deer rifles, my favorites
Montell,
My brother in law had a lever gun in .44 mag. The recoil was too much for him. Traded it.
He got another one in .44-.40 which had a bad (bent) front sight. The gun shop didn't have another 44 40 but did have one in .357 mag.
That was about 10 years ago and he's been getting 3 -4 deer a year dependent on the # of bonus/surplus doe tags available to him.
I kid him endlessly about having Too much gun.

Re: Deer rifles, my favorites
my deer rifle is a Rem Mod 7 Stainless synthetic with a 2-8x Leupold on top.
Other would be my Marlin 1894 lever gun in 44mag.
or any of my surplus rifles, like my Mauser, or M44, or my Enfield in 7.62 x39.
however, I prefer handgun hunting for deer, Smith Mod 29-2, 6.5" barrel in 44 mag."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH
