neg rep for infractions?
just an idea that crossed my mind.
any notions about deducting rep points when people get infractions?
I am thinking of it not so much as punishment, but more to take away the social incentive of people repping each other for acting like assholes.

Re: neg rep for infractions?
IMO, not a good idea.
rep causes enough drama all by itself. Introducing this type of correlation between rules enforcement and the "fun feature" of rep is asking for mega sour grapes over legitimate infractions. I think it would create far more problems than benefit._________________________________________

Re: neg rep for infractions?
I agree with Rich that this isn't a good idea, but for a different reason. The purposes of rep points and infractions are completely different. Infractions are points issued to users by the admins/mods of the site for violation of the site rules. Rep points, OTOH, can be issued by anyone to anyone as a reflection of what they think about a user's post, and the overall rep score is meant to be a measure of one's reputation on the site. Tying the the two together doesn't seem to make sense to me, as it's completely possible for someone with a great reputation to be given an infraction, and someone who has a terrible reputation for other reasons (like bad posts) to have no infractions because, while their posts may not be liked, they haven broken any forum rules.
