    Default Shops in the area?

    Hi Folks,

I'm just looking for any/all shops to do some shopping. Gander Mountain and Blue Mountain Sporting goods (who no longer sells firearms) in Chambersburg are the only places I know of!

    Thanks,
    J

If you keep going down 997 towards 30, there is a little shop off to the left a guy runs next to his house. Him and his wife run it. Super awsome guy and he has all kinds of cool/extremely old/awsome stuff in there. Great prices to.

Only open from 430-8 during the week, so its a small window.

It's called the Chattanooga Trading Post and there is just a small sign in his front yard. It's right past where Truck Tech. used to be. Now I think its the Russell Standard Corp with storage units in the back. It's about 2.5 - 2.7 miles from McDonalds.

Thank! I've since found two other shops:

Herold's Gun Shoppe (Bernette Ave, RT16, Eastern side of town) is chock full of WW-era rifles and pistols. Nice run of shotguns too, but only 1-2 modern pistols. Used him for an FFL transfer ($35)

A little further East on 16 is another shop on the left, right past a large tire place. Can't remember the name of it now...

That shop beside the tire shop is the Hunters Den. Good place. Great guys. Ammo prices arent great, but gun prices arent bad. Keep heading east on SR16 and cross into Maryland. Stateline Gun Exchange is located in Emmitsburg. THey have a guy in PA to do transfers for anything u might buy. Good people there too. Of course there is the Keystone Country Store in Fort Loudon. Just head west on SR30 from CBurg. Turn right onto Rt75, u cant miss it. Reddings Hardware in Gettysburg has a pretty amazing selection of both handguns and long guns. Ammo selections is plentiful, but a little pricey. THe Shooters Range is the indoor shooting range in CBurg. He sells some guns too. Can order anything u want. Nice guy too. Thats about it.

Don't forget Scotty Taylor's shop, Upper Temple Rd, just over the hill in the Biglerville area of Adams County. A real amazing collection of iron skillets, and a monstrous inventory of guns and gun-stuff. Good guy to deal with, too.

The "Ft. Chambers Gunshop" is the black-powder shop right across SR 997, at the Chambersburg Mall. Jim is one of the finest, and his inventor is pretty good, but his knowledge is terriffic ! He is one guy who will share that knowledge. Also stocks lots of kits and parts and accessories for Blk.Pwdr.

The shop further East (South?) on 997 is the "Trading Post". C&R, as well as modern.

The indoor range, "Shooters Range", is on Edenville RD,, (Go North on Franklin St, it becomes Franklin St Extended, and as it goes up a hill, Edenville Rd branches off LEFT near the top of the hill - be cautious of approaching traffic over the hill). Range is @ 1/2 mile further on left. Super guy, has a fair selection of rental guns, ammo, and guns for sale. Also rents a 9mm SUBMACHINE GUN, (a LUSA, copy of MP-5).

Hunters Den in Waynesboro has a lot of reloading gear, as well as a fair inventory of firearms and - - (such ammunition as the current market situation allows).

Dunhams, in the strip mall between Wal-Mart and Lowe's has shotguns, some highly overpriced AK's, .22's, and the assortment of low-to-mid hunting rifles. NO handguns, almost no ammo.

There is also Conocheague (Phil Ranck) Gun Shop in St. Thomas, (1/2 mile south of the square on St.Thomas/Williamson Rd) has a modest selection of rifles and shotguns, some ammo, accessories.

Thanks for feedback folks. Now time for my own (unfortunately).

I would sincerely stay away from Herrold's Gun Shoppe for FFL transfers - really lethargic about keeping on top of the transactons. I had two (one being received, the other being shipped), and they took over 4weeks to get paperwork back and forth. They refuse to have their fax machine fixed, and instead insist on other dealers that they scan/email the liscenses as they do. Not everyone is up to speed on this sort of thing. It forced the last dealer to mail a copy of the FFL.

Nice guy, but that gal that he has handling shipments doesn't keep you informed of what's going on (until you get a screaming call from an impatient buyer).

Just got around t re-reading this thread. For transfers, see Stu at Hunters' Den, just another mile or so East on Rt 16, on the other side of the road, next to the tire place. Super fast, good price.

Or Glen at Shooter's Range/Shooter's Delight, Chambersburg. Again, economical and fast.

Another place for transfers is Heckman's on Guitner Rd. Works out of his house. Call first. 375-4563

HI, I usually try to take a trip to Shyda's gun shop about every three months. Stock up on some shotshell reloading supplies. From what I have seen they have really good prices on those and their guns seem pretty reasonable also. Some people probably know of cheaper and if anyone is willing to share the info I am always looking for a good shop to go poke around in.
