Search on for Pennsylvania Man Who Shot Up Girlfriend's Home With AK-47

    Monday, March 16, 2009

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. — Police in central Pennsylvania have issued an East Coast bulletin for a man charged with riddling his ex-girlfriend's home with 21 shots from an assault rifle.

Police in Logan Township, about 85 miles east of Pittsburgh, say 33-year-old Joseph Olecki shot up the woman's home after she ended their 10-year-relationship about 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Police say Monday Olecki remains armed and very dangerous. He's originally from Scranton.

Olecki faces attempted homicide and other charges. Court papers say he has six stolen assault rifles with him and told the woman he plans to "take out as many people as possible" before he's caught.

Police say Olecki may be driving his black 2005 Ford F-150 pickup with Pennsylvania license plate YTV-7328.

Heard about this on the way into work this morning, all over all the radio stations around here.
They said he has previous convictions and such, so i figured either he hit up some high end gun fleamarkets (or friends) or they were stolen (since a PICS would practically laugh at him for trying to buy a gun).
    Eyes peeled in Huntingdon.

A Logan Township man apparently distraught over the breakup of a nearly 10-year relationship with his girlfriend fired 21 shots into her home Saturday night, spurring an intense manhunt that still was under way late Sunday.

Police have charged Joseph B. Olecki, 33, formerly of 633 Drexel Lane, with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm and theft of nine guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Logan police put out an all-points bulletin covering the East Coast for Olecki and his 2005 Ford F150 black pickup truck with a super cab with Pennsylvania license registration YTV-7328.

Although Olecki is a Scranton-area native with family there, Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller believes he was in the Altoona area Sunday.

Olecki's former girlfriend told police that he served time at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview for a similar incident more than a decade ago and has said he will not go back to jail.

Olecki told her "he was going to shoot up Altoona this weekend and take out as many people as possible," according to a police affidavit of probable cause issued with the arrest warrant.

Police say at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Olecki fired 21 rounds into the house and his girlfriend's car from what they believe was an AK-47 assault rifle, a weapon that fires 90 to 100 rounds a minute.

The white pickup truck Olecki allegedly used in the shooting was found at 5:38 a.m. Sunday near the East Freedom Wal-Mart just south of Altoona.

The truck was believed to have been stolen from Olecki's place of employment, Lenny's Classic Cars on 58th Street, where he was a mechanic.

The weapons Olecki has, including four AK-47 assault rifles and two AR-15 assault rifles, were stolen from a friend, the police affidavit stated.

Police said Olecki and his ex-girlfriend had been together since 1999, when Olecki was released from a halfway house in Scranton. The couple then moved to Altoona.

Criminal records in Lackawanna County show Olecki was convicted in the early 1990s of aggravated assault, simple assault and and harassment.

Heller believes Olecki is extremely dangerous.

    AR-15 an assault rifle?
An assault rifle is a rifle designed for combat, with selective fire (capable of shooting either like a machine gun or one bullet at a time). Assault rifles are the standard infantry weapons in most modern armies, having largely superseded or supplemented battle rifles (which are similar to assault rifles but are larger and more powerful) such as the World War II-era M1 Garand and SVT-40. Examples of assault rifles include the AK-47, the M16 rifle, and the Steyr AUG.

I have noticed more and more media stories using the term "Assault Rifle" to describe semi-automatic rifles that look "SCARY". I think the Brady Bunch and HCI have updated the media talking points that they issue to their pals in the media.

There also seems to be more doom and gloom stories about guns. It seems to have really gained traction since "O" took office

They caught him today around 11am in a stolen car after a short chase. He was amazingly still in the Logan Township area.
