Sorry to hear about the BS your friend is going through DC, I hope everything works out in the end!

A judge normally has to have just cause and proof of immanent danger to issue a PFA, there are some that hand them out like candy. My lawyer actually had one against my ex. He used it more as a tool to make her chill out, put the kids first and to get a settlement done.

GASP!!! Someone actually used a PFA to better their standing in a Civil Matter. Say it ain't so!!

At least you have the decency to admit it

    Be safe (and up front).

She had lost her mind at the time and was doing nutty stuff! Believe it or not the judge issued it because she was taking scissors and cutting things up at the house (it was a female judge who issued it).

The thing about it, is that it actually was the best thing that could have happened. It forced her to put the kids best interest first and she stopped all the nonsense after it. It was only in place for a couple weeks. But yes lawyers use them regularly to gain an upper hand in divorces unfortunately.

I paid a lot of money to my legal team and at the end of the day even though I didn't like it(the PFA) they where very effective in getting results.

My ex and I now have a better relationship than we ever did while we were married and the kids are great, well adjusted and we share custody which was my main objective. I refuse to be a absentee parent and wanted them in school with me and I wanted my time with them.
