Default Wilkes-Barre Rifle and Pistol Club

I shot IDPA for the first time this weekend at the Wilkes-Barre Rifle and Pistol Club. I had a great time. What a nice bunch of guys. They really took the time to show me the rules and give me tips on shooting. If anyone has ever though of trying this and are in the area please go! You will kick yourself for not trying it sooner. Their next match is 4/11. I plan on being there unless something happens.

I think the biggest thing is just take your time and be careful. I took my time when I shot and was more worried about learning than how fast I shot. After a few matches I'll probably try to go faster and push myself a little. Shooting accurately and slowly will score much better than fast with misses anyway. Check out some youtube videos on IDPA, read the rules. Take a gun you are used to carrying and don't worry what class it falls into. You can get away with three mags, I brought 5. I only shot about 80 rds or so, but I brought 5 boxes of ammo. Expect the guys to be really nice and patient with you. They want you to have a good time and come back. They explain every stage in explicit detail before you shoot, you walk through and make sure you know what the string of fire is. They let the new guy shoot last so you can watch everyone else shoot so you know what's going on. They all give you tips on how to shoot each stage. I learned a lot. The only thing they have zero tolerance for is being unsafe. Depending on what you do you could be out for the day, no second chances. I guarantee you will have a good time. Hope to see you there. Couldn't have said it better myself. As a new shooter safety should be your number one priority. Take your time to make you shots and be safe. The speed will come in time. Having an open mind always helps when people are making suggestion.

As for gear, try to have at least 3 mags and a good holster that covers the trigger guard as well. Make sure you know how to load unload and clear your gun in a safe manor. Other than that your SO will help you with just about everything else.

I always enjoy shooting at Wilkes-Barre, they are good people up there. I will be at Easton this week end, hope to see you there.

Hey yoder- i guess they will get you with the paintball guns next time...

So did anyone else go this weekend? The weather sucked, but it was still fun. They had a lot of good stages. Walking backwards while shooting, turn and draw, strong hand only, weak hand only. They even set up two stages where you shot through a van. Next shoot is on 5/9, hope to see you there.
