Vehicle Inspection Rant
Ugh... brought my 2003 Pathfinder in for inspection today... Broken upper end links in the rear suspension... 90k mile service... tune up... transfer case and differential services.... front brakes... O2 sensor (yes, had a CEL for it)... leaking exhaust gasket in front of cat... replace a burned out fog light... fix a cracked tail light housing...
about $3000 when all is said and done... I'm seriously about to cry...

Re: Vehicle Inspection Rant
i haven't seen the itemized estimate, obviously, but HOLY CRAP BATMAN...$3000...YIKES. get the parts and do the work yourself.
unless there is a lot more to it than what you have posted (or there is something special about the pathfinder that makes one of these issues a much bigger issue than it normally is), i would guess you are looking at *maybe* a few hundred dollars in parts and a few hours worth of work.F*S=k

Re: Vehicle Inspection Rant
That my friend is the reason why I don't have HID HEADLIGHTS... Cost for 2 SilverStar 9006st 49.98 plus tax.
3 grand isn't bad for everything the mechanic had to do... that's a lot of work and a lot of money... i know the cheapest o2 sensor is 65 bucks.. if it's the down stream o2 sensor, The cheapest is $105.00....tune ups are over 150 bucks... 90 thousand miles, is that the timing belt as well?
yeah that's not bad at all... also, your truck should be running MUCH better now... and getting better gas milage!"Do not use K-9 advantix on cats"

Re: Vehicle Inspection Rant
$730 for my last inspection in January - '95 GMC Sierra K1500 350cid
patch rocker panel below extra cab
new exhaust from cat to tail pipe(pipes & muffler.
new passenger side exhaust manifold
power steering pressure hose
oil change
passenger side CV shaft for 4wd
front brake pads
inspection costs
taxes
I could have done all the repairs(except CV shaft) and maintenance myself - but I didn't feel like getting dirty.
3 weeks later got hit by a rock and cracked my windshield from passenger side up high, snaked low to my weight class sticker. Haven't replaced it yet, should still pass since it isn't in the driver's direct view.
Thankfully if my computer and injection crap goes bad - a call to Summit or PAW for an intake manifold, carb and high-to-low fuel pressure regulator, and a call to the junk yard for a HEI distributor will fix that permanently.

Re: Vehicle Inspection Rant
Wow... how can it be so expensive?! Does the 90k involve an engine tear-down or something? I just can't see it based on the service you need.
