    Sportsman's Warehouse closing
    Wednesday, March 11, 2009
By Teresa F. Lindeman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Sportsman's Warehouse store at the Mt. Nebo Pointe shopping center is one of 23 of the chain's stores around the country that are being closed.

The Midvale, Utah-based retailer, which sells fishing, hunting and camping gear, recently announced the 23 stores are being liquidated to reduce bank debt, while another 15 locations are being sold to Canadian enterprise UFA Co-operative Limited.

"It is hoped that these actions will enable the firm to go forward as a viable entity with approximately 2,300 employees," according to the announcement from Stuart Utgaard, chairman and chief executive officer of Sportsman's Warehouse Holdings, posted on the company's Web site.

A store employee said the location is expected to be closed by May.

I don't get there often, but that sucks.

Guess they are having a hard time competing with Gander and Cabela.

I always thought they had decent prices on ammo. I used to stop there all the time, but then after the election they seemed to stop re-stocking their shelves in several departments and I decided it wasn't worth the drive just to look at bare shelves.

They employed a lot of people at that store too...

that sucks. with the exception of REI, that was prolly my favorite store in the entire pittsburgh area.

of course, as mentioned above, they haven't had much in stock lately. haven't had a good ammo stock for many months.

Kind of sucks because they are only 5min from me, but like burnsie touched on their selection is nowhere near where it was from when they opened up till about 6months or so ago. Not sure if its because they knew they where closing, the obamania or both but the other day when I went in there it kinda looked like a tornado went threw, they had zero glocks down from their usual 2 or 3+ per model, only a couple 1911's and maybe 1 or 2 sigs. All they had for plinking ammo was 3brands of american eagle handgun ammo which was 10mm, 44mag, and i want to say something like 41mag, no 9mm, 40, or 45 which is very rare, they used to have a few big islands, and at the end of all the isles, none of it is there.

The one near here is closing, too. I'm afraid I'm not going to miss it, though. They have rarely had ammo and components in stock, and their prices are really high.

So...does anyone in the area want to swing by and see if there are any killer deals on hunting/fishing/shooting stuff?

As not all their stores are going out of business, you most likely will not see any killer deals. They will just ship the stuff off to another store.

I think the days of "Going out of Business" Sales are gone. Big Lots/ Odd Lots types of stores will buy everything left out. Most of what is left in store at bargain prices is broken junk.

even if they had deals, they have nothing to sell. But like koli said since the whole company isnt going out of business you prob won't see a liquidation sale or anything

    That sucks.

Even if it's a store that people complain about due to "whatever", an "outdoors" store closing is bad all around.

The less exposure to "outdoor" activities(Hunting/fishing/camping...)the public gets, the more they think it's not "normal" to participate in those activities.

And on a personal level, it sucks, because that was a favorite stop when I was on that side of town.
