    Default Buyer's Remorse

It's inevitable. You buy a gun, are all excited over it, and when that dies down you find yourself with something you really wish you didn't buy.

I find myself in that situation with my S&W 9mm Sigma. Feels good, is comfortable to hold, no problem shooting with it...fires great IMHO. Easy to clean, etc. However, I just don't want it anymore. I thought about selling it, but I'm not going to get that much for it and I CERTAINLY won't get what I paid on the used market. If I take it to the dealer, that means the gun I buy with the 'credit' is that much more expensive.

So what do you do, do you juts put it in the safe and take it out every now and then, or do you suck it up and just use it anyway? I don't mind keeping it, but it's not what I want. Not sure what I want, and I think I've got a touch of gun-fever which means that whatever I replace it with might not be what I 'want' either.

Am I the only one who goes through this? I got it in my head that I want a Berretta, but $$ is tight...and I might not even like that either.

Is there like a cure for this or something????

im not wealthy, i do have a lot of hobbies/toys so guns are just one of many things on the "want a new/want to upgrade" list.

i don't like selling firearms, i don't usually like a gun/rifle than decide i don't like it. i mean i go through a lot of stages of "uuu ui want this" or " i HAVE TO have that" but never... damn.. i bought this and i dont even wanna shoot it anymore.

if you really don't like the gun that much, put it up for sale for how much you THINK you can get for it.

maybe you'll get lucky and get your money.

but you're gonna take a hit with anything used when it comes to selling.

OR you could GIVE it to someone that writes back to you ....LOL

If your not happy with the gun, then by all means get rid of it... take the loss and learn.... but make sure that next time ya really think things through so your not just throwing $$$$ out the window...

( and I would still take it as a gift from ya just to easy your mind and make you sleep better ).......

First , theres no such thing as to many guns ! That being said , if your really that unhappy / or money is an issue and you feel that strongly about it , then might as well bite the bullet and trade in/up. You didnt really get to much into exactly what it is you " dont like " . In fact you wrote of a few positive attributes . Can you expand on what it is your not happy with ?

As an aside , I dont know how it works over in the Free State of PA , but behind the iron curtain in NJ my wife went through about 10 different manufacturers , models , calibers before she found one she loved and could effectively protect her should the need arise . We found a dealer that took guns on consignment , since they were used guns , he would let a prospective buyer "test drive " them before purchase . She went through Glocks , S&W , Kahr , Para Ordinance , Ruger , etc before she finally settled on a Taurus Millenium Pro in .40 cal .

All the other choices had an "issue " of some sort , at least for her . Sometimes it was simply the grip wasnt comfortable , sometimes the action , sometimes trigger pull or manipulation of controls ( mag release , slide stop , safety , etc ) She had a real issue with the Sub sized Glocks torquing in her hand and pulling the shot far left .

The Taurus she went with fit her hand like a glove , was light enough and concealable enough for daily carry , and had the stopping power we felt she would need , while still being controlable .

If your really anxious about your next choice , see if you can sample others weapons in some manner , eventually you'll find the one thats "just for you"

The OP bought the pistol equivalent of a KIA. It'll get you there, neither quickly nor stylishly, but it'll get you there.

Next time, think twice, buy once, and look around long and hard first.

Before I buy a new gun, I make sure I have shot one just like it before. Whether a friends or at a range, or whatever. But I need to know that I will like the gun I am buying.

With that said, I have bought used guns before at auctions and stuff that I am not a fan of. But I buy them at a price that I know I can sell them and get my money back. But I have yet to sell a gun. Guns are both fun and an investment to me. I have some of both. So when a gun isn't fun for me anymore, I see it as an investment for years down the road. Probably won't happen, but it keeps me happy. So I hang onto it anyway.

Might want to ask yourself whether it's remorse, or maybe just the novelty wore off. The difference is, novelty isn't a big deal, the gun still does what you expect. This is exactly how I feel about the two Glocks I have (19 & 26). I bought them to carry, I really don't think about them at all unless I rummage around for a "street gun", which is a gun worthy of defense use but not the least bit collectible and easily replaced.

If you bought it for collectiblity and it doesn't ring your bell anymore, then sell it. Personally I'd hang on to it, even if I never shot it again. Guns have a way of steadily going up in value over time, not down.

    This thread is killing me.

I would have thrown some money into some shares of a coal company (that was the talk, and it looked pretty kick ass) instead of buying anything where there is absolutely no necessity, and questionables for its likability.

From my experience in buying I've noticed a want excitement with a tiny doubt that I feel which usually turns out to me finding that I don't want it, and then there's an unexcited disciplined confidence I feel at other times which then the result turns out to be vice versa: a cherishing of what I bought more and more as time goes on.
