FBI Director Mueller: A Mumbai-style attack can happen in the U.S.

How many cities around the world could fall prey to a Mumbai-style attack? How many cities here in the United States? Could a similar attack happen in Seattle or San Diego, Miami or Manhattan?

These were the questions posed by FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III in an address before the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C. last week.

Muller said that the terrorist attacks that killed more than 170 and wounded more than 300 others in Mumbai three months ago “reminds us that terrorists with large agendas and little money can use rudimentary weapons to maximize their impact” and that “the simplest of weapons can be deadly when combined with capability and intent.”

Mueller warned that while the United States continues to face threats from al Qaeda, we must also focus on lesser-known terrorist groups—particularly extremists from ‘visa-waiver countries,’ who are “merely an e-ticket away from the United States.”

In Manhattan and San Diego where the good citizens are disarmed, definitely. Where we are able to defend ourselves that could be the shortest attempted massacre in history--good and bad news is we don't ever know how bad foiled attempts could have gotten; we only know the worst it can get when it turns out that way ala Luby's in Killeen.

Remember the Hollywood bank robbery? Two guys held off a good portion of the L.A. police until the cops were properly armed by a gun shop owner.

Law enforcement agencies in this country are controlled by politicians. The problem with that is, once the news is off the headlines, the politicians promptly forget the lessons learned, and go back to filling their pockets.

Mumbai style attacks are in our future. Not necessarily by foreigners, but by home grown fanatics. Islam has grown like a malignant tumor in our prison system.

Those are the folks, I believe, who will do the killing.

An attack can happen anywhere. Part of the problem here is we think we are safe. Just because we don't deal with those things often, we are not safe.

Look at the activities of both, then look at the perception of each. Yeah, Ayers is much more dangerous. He's not out there indoctinating the youth right now.
