    Default AK Reciever Flats

I picked up an ak receiver flat a few months ago and seem to have everything figured out for the folding and such, but as I have been getting info it seems that different flats can only be built into different types of kits. I know that there is a difference in the receiver of an underfolder vs standard, but are there any other differences I need to know?

As far as I know, the only difference in flats is the stock attachment. There might be flats for something like a single stack magazine but I really doubt they'd be that common of a flat.

You are aware that once you bend the reciever you need to get the metal treated and hardened, as well as parkerized or otherwise finished, I hope?

Yup! Surplusrifle.com has a great piece on all that.

There are a couple of different types of flats. Some have the holes for the rivets and some do not. Some are made for the UF while others are not.

A flat will not work if your building a milled type kit such as the Yugo's.

Other then that you're pretty much GTG.

I've built from flats both UF's/sidefolders and conventional stocks before and while time consuming it is enjoyable. I made my own jig for the bending process and heat treated the X/Y holes as well as the rails both upper and lower.

Here are a couple pics of builds from flats for motivation. (smile)

Thanks for the answers. I'm looking to join it with an amd65 parts kit, so I'm pretty much good to go!

AMD65 ... that was my first build and got me hooked. LOL
    Yes you're good to go.
You'll need to notch out your flat in the rear for the side folder. Also drill a small hole on the bottom for the locking button.
    Good luck

Don't forget that some flats have a bulge like the ones for RPKs and Yugos. Most flats are for specific rifles, so hopefully your flat will work with your AMD kit
