Default Are we a Republic or a Democracy?

Actually, we are an Oligarchy. Watch this interesting video. It really fits the times that we are in. http://www.wimp.com/thegovernment/

Our founding fathers designed us to be a republic. A country ruled by law and not ruled by a few men. As we can see what is going on in our country now, we are ruled by a few elite. The more power our government has, the less freedoms we as a people have. The short movie explains it a lot better than I can. I have a short attention span, but it was worth the 10 minutes out of my life.

The terms "Republic" and "Democracy" are not mutually exclusive.

The UK is a Democracy, but is not a Republic.

Iran is a Republic, but not a Democracy.

The United States is both a Republic and a Democracy.

I was thinking this very question today. We all know the founding fathers wanted to build a republic...but all I can see evidence of is a democracy.

Representative democracy is not inconsistent with oligarchy or several other less than pure democratic or non-democratic forms of government.
