    Default 1911 upgrades?

So I am thinking of doing some upgrades to my Springfield Mil-Spec. Looking at high ride beavertails and a tactical thumb safety on Wilson Combats website. also interested in a commander style hammer which i think is almost necessary with the beavertail. two questions: 1. where else is there to look for these accessories? and 2. would it be best to take the gun and new parts to a smith and let him/her do the work than trying to do it myself? i can field strip and clean but not sure i would be able to do install on my own.

    thanks

I'd recommend taking it to a reputable 1911 gunsmith so that he can fit the items you mentioned. Doing it yourself can work, but you run the risk of completely ruining the gun if you file too much metal.

Drop-in items work, but are rather sloppy in my experience.

If you want to LOOK at different accessories (to see what you might want installed) for a 1911 go to Brownells (www.brownells.com). You can even order a catalog from them that is exclusively for 1911's. Also, Fusion Firearms (www.fusionfirearms.com) carries a lot of accessories/upgrades for the1911.

Not too far from Philly. I`ve heard good things about them. Smithing prices are right on the website.

Look at caspian and also Chip MCcormack, ED Brown there is a whole pleathora of places to look. Like Brownells, Midway, just to name 2 of the bighger ones. plus there are many gunsmiths who will be able to help. i tend to favor Wilson Combat and Ed Brown they are in my opinion the best in the business.
