Re: Navy guys.....show us your ship!!
10 years active, never saw a ship.
Had NEC's for shore based communications and instructor.
Every time I rotated I asked my detailer for a ship, but never got one.
Finally saw one when I taught a class for Motorola at a Navy base in Norfolk.
Never spent time in the brig, but working SP I escorted a couple people in there."Having a gun and thinking you are armed is like having a piano and thinking you are a musician" Col. Jeff Cooper (U.S.M.C. Ret.)

I'm not Navy, but my girlfriend is. She's on the USS Ashland (LSD-48) stationed at Little Creek Amphib Base.

Re: Navy guys.....show us your ship!!
My father was in the Navy...
He was on board a total of 18 months from January 1970 until October 1972, with the VF-114 squadron of fighter jets (F4B Phantom Jets), and was sent on board only for the time that the ship was overseas. He was responsible for all of the classified information that was maintained by his squadron. Pretty cool stories he has too! He personally saw a guy get sucked into a jet turbine...(that wasn't the cool story).
This is where he spent his time...
USS KITTYHAWK CV 63 her home port in the USA was San Diego, CA and her home port while he was in Vietnam was Subic Bay, Philippines.
and my mom's, boyfriends, daughter is now commissioned to the USS George W. Bush CVN 77
Some facts on the CVN 77 some of you older Navy guys might be suprised to see...
2 nuclear reactors that run for 20 years with no refueling
47,000 tons in weight
80+ aircraft
20 stories tall
6,000 people in the crew
can operate 90 days without resupplyLast edited by Bmarshall91; February 25th, 2009 at 01:39 PM.
