Re: Saiga 12 cleaning/lubing
Well at least you're ports are "the normal" ones, 19" guns used to come in 4 ports though with #1 pattern with an extra hole on the muzzle side of the gas block to form a diamond.
In theory you could do the same with yours, but you don't have to since the gun is functioning.
Maybe I missed it, have you tried/any desire to shoot low brass? (ie cheap bulk pack 7 1/2 or 8 shot)The resident Saiga snob

Re: Saiga 12 cleaning/lubing
I've only shot Federal LE Tactical loads through it thus far. I wanted to use high quality ammo to make sure the rifle worked before I introduced cheap ammo. I certainly wouldn't mind trying other ammo, as long as it's decent stuff. Which bulk pack stuff are you thinking of?

haha... mine was a 19"gun with the goofed up 4 port arrangement.
one port was obscured with the gas block, the others were too small.
Followed Tonys directions to fix that... haven't looked back.
also, he speaks the TRUTH about the recoil buffer... my gun was giving me fits til i pulled it out... now, works awesome.
buy as many of thr AGP mags as you can afford.
now i just need to get my muzzle trimmed and re threaded."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

I shoot Federal bulk from Wal-mart to hold me over between sales at Dunhams of Remington All Purpose Sport loads. Buy the heaviest you can (ie 1 oz or 1 1/8th).

Stay away from Wal-mart winchester...its like the plague.
Ya know....it ain't that hard to do. Even I pulled it off, hardest part was taking that chop saw to the barrel
Might be doing another one too since a buddy can only find a 24" gun.Last edited by scoutjoe; February 28th, 2009 at 12:47 AM. Reason: fixy linky

Re: Saiga 12 cleaning/lubing
Mine poops all over itself with the cheap Wal-Mart Federal #8 shot with the gas port set to #2. I tossed in some 00 and that works on #1 with no problem. I am going to check out the links posted earlier in this thread to see if there is anything I have issues with concerning my gas ports. I did read of other folks seeing problems with the Federal #8 shot though.
