    Default Virginia Tech Weapons Policy

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Policy 5616
    Revision: 1 August 23, 2005
Campus and Workplace Violence Prevention Policy Page 2 of 7

    2.2 Prohibition of Weapons
The university’s employees, students, and volunteers, or any visitor or other third party attending a sporting, entertainment, or educational event, or visiting an academic or administrative office building or residence hall, are further prohibited from carrying, maintaining, or storing a firearm or weapon on any university facility, even if the owner has a valid permit, when it is not required by the individual’s job, or in accordance with the relevant University Student Life Policies. Any such individual who is reported or discovered to possess a firearm or weapon on university property will be asked to remove it immediately. Failure to comply may result in a student judicial referral and/or arrest, or an employee disciplinary action and/or arrest.

Looks like that worked out great for them. We see how effectively their "violence prevention policy" prevented violence.

I carry against school policy, do you?

George Bush has taught our kids that killing is a legal and effective way of getting your way, and gaining power.

I've suspected that all along. In fact I know Bush had something to do with Columbine as well.

It was the guns fault! They turn people into evil killing machines. Just like microwave ovens unless you wear your tin foil hat.

That'll be the bottom line for the Dems!

Another thing I thought of as I read the various postings was firearm knowledge/training (just understanding of how guns work, etc). On another thread I read that the students may have been scared (which anyone would have been) at hearing gun shots. But had many or some of the students had some type of firearm training at some point in their life it may have helped them assess the situation. But then again teaching children and young adults about guns will turn them into killers. Any gun knowledge may have helped them make some valuable and possible life saving decisions. I wonder if some hear gun shots and simply hide under desks, in closets, etc. essentially cornering themselves. Firearm knowledge or familiarity may have helped some students not to panic, as most probably did, and make some important determinations i.e., that there is only one gunman, how many guns is he currently shooting, possible caliber (small or large), he's got a semi-auto handgun that may only hold 15 to 20 rounds and at some point he is going to have to reload which would make a good time to rush him.

I not saying had I been there I would have done something but I'd like to think I would have. Just trying to say firearm knowledge is never talked about much. I have a daughter 15 and she knows the basics of guns (i.e., revolvers, semi-auto's, understanding of the the safety, how to unload safely, etc. I hope to think that something I taught her will someday help her out.

I am really surprised there was not some group effort or some attempt to stop him.

Its a real tragedy but the bottom line again will be GUNS DID THE KILLING!

This is a terrible trajedy that could of been prevented by one armed student exercising his or her second amendment right to bear arms.
