Carried to court house today, Stroudsburg/ Monroe County
Today I had to drop off a reference card at the sheriffs office which is in the court house here in monroe county. My friend came along to get his LTCF application. We were walking from across town so I did not want to go unarmed.
So we walked in, and I took my wallet out as I was approaching the metal detectors and took out my LTCF. I was CC'ing since it's still pretty chilly outside. I handed it to the deputy and said, "i need to check a firearm".
The deputy, asked where I was going, I replied "to the sheriffs office". She replied "ok", and notified the two deputies behind her that she needed to check a firearm in. They stopped anyone from continuing in or out of the check point and had me sign a paper saying I was checking a firearm into locker number ##.
She brought me over to the lockers, there was about a dozen of them. Opened up my locker and asked me to place my firearm in the locker. I asked "would you like me to remove the magazine and unchamber my firearm?. She replied "please go ahead". So I did, while keeping the muzzle pointed directly at the locker away from everyone else in the room. Placed my gun inside the locker and she locked it up. They then wanded me and told me to go ahead into the sheriffs office. Went in, delivered the reference card, picked up a LTCF application for my mother and my friend grabbed his.
Walked back to the check point and signed the paper work again stating they were returning the gun to me. Then the same deputy who handled me upon entrance took me back over to the locker and told me to retrieve my gun. Before I went to take my gun out of the locker I asked "do you have preference about me chambering, we you have me do it here or when I leave?". The deputy said "it wouldn't go over to well out there so go ahead and do it right here". I said ok, so I placed the mag in and chambered a round, then placed my firearm in my holster.
I then asked the deputy what her name was, she said Victoria. She asked mine I said, "Louis". I said "thankyou for your assistance". She asked if I would be returning, i said "I will". She said, "have a nice day". We shook hands and I departed.
I'm really suprised this went over so well as I've heard some horror stories about folks carrying into their court house before. All 3 deputies were extremely professional and courteous. At no point did they make me feel as if I were being side showed. I'm thinking of writing the sheriff a letter letting him know his deputies executed their duties in a polite and professional manner. All in all I was in there less than 10 minutes. I just wanted to throw this up here for everyone to read.

Great story!
I agree about the letter. Even though she was doing her job as it's supposed to be, there's nothing wrong with giving someone a pat on the back when "the norm" seems to be incompetence.

It sounds like the same thing as when I went, except she basically made a big production out of it. They froze everyone on the first floor, and then she told me that they prefer I left my firearm in the car next time. For me, it was embarrassing. Was she a little blond? Maybe the procedure was new when I went, or maybe going to the clerks office instead of the sheriff's office makes a difference? IDK, but it was definitely a sideshow when I did it. Maybe they got a memo? Glad it went well for you.

Why (he foolishly asked) do people insist on doing things the hard way?

It is always good to hear a positive story. This sounds much like my trip for jury duty in Philadelphia 2 weeks ago. Yes, I said Philadelphia and it was a non event with no issues at all!

I found the thread from my experience. Maybe somebody read it and they stopped freezing people? Would not have been too bad if they had just held up the line and the OpEd portion was skipped....

Re: Carried to court house today, East Stroudsburg/ Monroe County
Big change from when I first went there about 4yrs ago. Went uo to the rent a cop they had at that time showed her my LTCF and explained that I needed to check in my firearm, well she tried to read me the riot act about how I am not suppose to bring any firearm into the building and i should turn around now and leave it in my car or face arrest. Now treatening me with BS is not very healthy for anyone, I blasted her back and showed her the exact law about lockers in the court house, and then demanded to see the sheriff. A sheriff's deputy came over and told her she was wrong, but also told me they try and discurage people from coming to the court with a firearm. I told him the law is what matters not their opinion. So glad to see they smartened up.
