Did one up on the grill once----really greasy! Tasted ok. Might have some recipes, but I'd have to look.

There usually isn't enough chunks left to even make kicking its remains into its hole worth while, let alone eating them.

I think the chucks you all are seeing now are the males looking for hibernating females to breed. If you shoot them now, chances are you'll be screwing an entire generation in a given area. ...something to keep in mind if your area is low on chucks. Remember, self regulation is the first step of wildlife management.

I generally wait until after the beginning of June to allow females and young to get a grasp on life.

My favorite subject. Chucks are the only game I hunt. I usually will wait until memorial day to begin shooting them. That gives the young ones a chance. My buddy and I shot several hundred last year. Longest shot was 786yds. lasered witha Leica.
here are a couple of rifles in my battery.
From left to right: Top= Remington BDL .17 Rem AI 8.5-25X50 Leupold VX III LR
Bottom= Remington 6mm AI waiting for its new Nightforce
    Three .19 caliber Calhoons
Top= .19 calhoon ( based on the Hornet case )
    Mid= .19 Calhoon badger ( based on the .30 M1 case )
Bottom+ .19-223 Calhoon all of the Calhoons have Leupold 8.5-25X50 VX III LR's
    Calhoon Medallion
    Calhoon Medallion
The CZ's are built on 527 actions and all have PacNor Super match barrels.

I have been wanting to hunt these for years.

A regular hunting license is all that is needed?

Any good spots in the Luzerne county area?

Come on now. I'm sure you could hunt them with just your lic.

As for me I'll be keeping the hides so a .22 for me. and I'd like to try my #330 body gripper out.

And might let my cooonhound chase a few...
Well, maybe not I'd hate to have it chase them damn gophers when out for bandits.

I didn't think intentional trapping of chucks was allowed??
