Why don't they store a huge number of these weapons in case they're needed one day? Didn't the Russians store around 15 Million AK-47's (and other) assault weapons for a major future war? Instead of having to build new ones...

Oh, then sell the left overs of course. I can't even find a M1 Garand for anything less then 1,400 dollars.. /sigh

Or store them where they will be most needed in a time of conflict, in the homes of the militia members, or in other words, We The People.

I have 6 people in my house capable of defending the country so I'll be needing 6 please Mr. Government.

I think a better question is what have they hurt? They may not have scored many significant points on their own merits but it's not like if the petition doesn't go anywhere it costs you money or something.

Considering that every available M14 is now in use and the DoD is buying new M1A's to meet demand. I think that you will not see them for sale through CMP ever.

How about Afghanistain the special ops boys have been using them for years. And don't forget President Bubba had thousands cut up during his enlightened
administration, and there wern't that many made compared with the M16.

I understand some are being used in Afganistan, many others have been dispersed to foreign armed forces and close to 1/2 million were destroyed by our own government. But where are the other 170,000 in U.S. inventories? But of more importance to the thread, why aren't they being released to the public, particularly since we own them in the first place and few are required or even wanted by our military. There is a fair amount of money to be made off of something with a demand, something that is taking up space and something costing the taxpayer in storage and maintainance.

Are you factoring in the select fire M14's into the 170K rifles? Has the CMP ever sold slect fire rifles?
