    Default Joined a gun club...

I recently joined a gun club. Last night was the "indoor range orientation and qualification" meeting.

There were 7 new members including myself. We got the usual rules and regs speech as well as an outdated video about the club itself. Everything one would expect at a meeting like this.

Finally after more than an hour we get to the actual shooting qualification part.

The first 4 guys line up at 10 yards from the targets. The goal is to shoot 2, 5 round groups into a target. 9 of the 10 shots have to hit paper. Bullseye hits are good but they just wanted us to hit the paper.

Mostly they wanted to see how we followed the range commands, used good safety, etc...

Oh man... One guy was using what looked like a brand new .45. He managed to get 2 hits on the paper in his first ten shots. Another guy couldn't rack the slide on his pistol. But the best one was almost a disaster.

The guy was using a Sig P232. He held the gun with his right hand and then placed his left hand over top the right so that his left thumb would have been around the slide. If he'd have fired like that he probably would have sliced his hand open but good.

4 of us passed. Those other 3...scary.

Everybody has to start somewhere... What is the club doing to educate those 3 guys so they can pass the test and continue to improve themselves?

The instructors did tell them they could come back in 2 weeks for some instruction and help. Then they will be eligible to test again.
