    Question 1911 problem

the gun is a springfield GI / a while ago it started not locking open on the last round fired / at first it was now and then but as time went it got more often then always / i think it has over 5000 rounds thru it / i don't think limp wristing is the problem / i changed the recoil spring but the new one is a 18lb (it was all they had) and stock is a 16lb / that problem solved except now when you release the slide into battery it jams alot and i noticed it pushes the projectile into the case (you can see a bulge in the brass) i think i should get a new stock spring and go from there

    ANY INPUT PLEASE

get a stock spring it is to strong and the slide is comeing forward to fast the bullet is slmming into the feed ramp..... had this happen on a colt LW commander once... the factory spring solved the problem and it is the cheapest way to start.

Yes, and make sure it's just not one magazine. A weak mag spring will do that too.

I taught Chuck Norris to bump-fire.

Always own a few mags and number them so you will notice a problem with a certain mags or when its time to refurb that mag. Have no fear..if you can't fix the problem with a change in mags or springs..Springfield did me right on customer care. I sent my GI in for a..slightly higher sights, weaken safety, flat mainspring, slight beavertail with a matching hammer and matching finish. Took 200beans and two weeks and I considered that a bargain!

And I promised myself I'd never change my GI!!!! Dang it!

I agree that you should try a 16 lb recoil spring but I use 18 lb springs in my guns w/o problems.

I'd also agree that weak magazine springs are part of the problem.
