    Question NFA receiver question

Given that the are a limited number of transferable mg's in circulation, what happens if you get one, shoot it an the receiver should crack. Can they be replaced, or are you SOL?

Just curious. I'd like to get me an MG, but don't want to find out the hard way if the major parts are replaceable in the event of stress fracture.

if its damaged beyond repair, you are SOL.
in limited cases the original manufacturer, if still in business, can replace the receiver.

just about anything can, and does get repaired when damaged

Per JayBell, that's how I understand it as well. If you're thinking about playing in the NFA (MGs in particular) sandlot, expect to use copious amounts of money.

huge, excessive copious piles of money.

it's not just the gun which is expensive, its the accessories too.

As long as you have enough budget to fix it, it can be fixed! You're never SOL, but you may end up S*** outta money!

with regards to the manufacturers replacing a receiver, didn't ruger get in trouble for replacing AC556 receivers a while back?

No, that was Olympic who stopped the practice after the ATF got involved. Around $225 for a brand new FA receiver. Sucks. IMO, too much gun board chatter killed it.

I did hear, tho, is Ruger saying they are running out of FA receivers.

i thought once you owned a registered receiver, if it ever broke beyond repair you could get one made with the same serial numbers but you have to destroy the original.

it wasn't really the gunboard chatter that killed it, they started replacing SEMI receivers that were originally made by olympic, but had been converted to FA in the 80s by a different SOT.

all the MGs made by them (or thier sister company they use to sell FA stuff) they can still replace.

only the original MFG can replace the receiver

as John@JCDLESales says, "anything" can be repaired....just depends on the level of "repairing" thats done

The reason I asked here was I have been considering a Mac 10 or 11

I have heard swd mfg ones were the way to go as Powder springs receiver can come unwelded.

While I was contemplating all that, I was wondering how often these things break, how much repairs run.

I guess if the repair didn't occur over and area where the serial numbers were, and it functioned correctly, it doesn't matter as long as it wouldn't detract from the value.
