Smile Is it illegal to sell ammo...

My Family and I own a small store and I was wondering if I could sell my excess ammunition in the store.

Are there any state or federal laws that would prevent me from selling a small amount of ammunition inside our business?

Yes I'm selling ammo I have no need for.

    I sold a lot of my off caliber guns... 40 S&W, 357 SIG, .410, 25 ACP.

    Hi,
I would be interested in that S&W 40 if you no longer have your firearm. What loads do you have?

I thought about selling it online but I don't know what the procedure is for shipping ammunition and it's a very small amount... Only 89 rounds I think.

If you sell ammo loaded by a licensed manufacturer like Remington, Winny, etc - no federal license needed.

If you load or reload ammo, or make bullets for sale - you'll need a federal license for sure. I'm sure there is leeway for just selling a little bit that you loaded for personal use.

A couple definitions just incase anyone is interested in loading to sell/resell.

    (10) The term "manufacturer" means any person engaged in the business of manufacturing firearms or ammunition for purposes of sale or distribution; and the term "licensed manufacturer" means any such person licensed under the provisions of this chapter.

(17)(A) The term "ammunition" means ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellent powder designed for use in any firearm.

Cool! All of the ammunition is factory Hornady, Winchester, Magtech, Speer, Federal, etc... So you're saying I'm good to go right?

    Yup! Good to go..

There was a time you could buy ammo in every mom & pop country store/gas stations, at grocery stores, etc. Some still do in BFE parts of PA(sometimes a good way to score on rare cartridges made long ago). Never needed a license.

I had the same question. I had a 30-06 rifle that I recently sold, and i have 7 boxes of unopened factory hunting rounds. Would a gun shop buy these from me, or can I sell them privately?

I see small quantities of ammo for sale all the time in small private convenience stores, hardware store etc.
