I wouldnt put pistol caliber in with true rifles. What about the K98 and Enfield? Both are excellent rifles found world wide.

    Also, you can build a HK91, HK33, FAL, AR15 for under 1k

Check Cabelas gun library. You can find a 1903 Springfield for under $1000 if you dont mind a less than perfect one.

    Enfields, '03s, K31s. Great rifles. Not semi-auto.
FYI.. SAIGA 12 at Centerfiresystems.com for $550 and free shipping. How can anyone bypass a magazine fed semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun?
    Semi-auto, yes. Not a rifle.
About "pistol" calibers...let'em stay. It's the barrel that makes something a rifle, not the cartridge. The UZI, however, hmmmm, kind of a different class - machine pistol/machine gun. Rifled barrel but is it a rifle in the same way as the others on the list?

What about the Remington 740/7400? At one point 10 rd mags were available. Probably couldn't find any now, though.

I would take off the IMI Galil too.
You are not going to find one of those for $1000.

However, you could get a Golani Sporter for under $1000.
It is a Galil style clone...
