I suggest you read this thread:

looks like a wallhanger in 38..... NOT 38 special.
Congrats to all the Sheeple.... I just hope that mutton isn't on the menu.

Without any more description it is almost impossible to try to give a price. That said, me personally probably wouldn't want to shoot it. Also, it is probably not a 38 Special but most likely a 38 S&W.

    Really need more info.

Howdy pick, and welcome to the forum.
More info needed on your US.
I personally have a 1870's vintage .32 rim fire US Revolver, about 95% condition, engraved, with Ivory grips. I also have a top break .32 S&W Short US Revolver snubbie, about 92%.
I would not use them for defense, but I have shot them, as I believe a gun should be useful for what it was intended.
If you like it, check for guns like it on gunbroker and auction arms, see what they go for, and if good go for it. Pay attention to condition. See it if you can. If on line assume that it is one grade lower in condition than the seller is saying. If you have it it's better than if you are buying it.
IF it is .38 S&W, ammo is available for it, but you MUST have a smith check it out if you are going to fire it. Fake fingers are no good for much, and glass eyes suck.
Personally, I love the old revolvers.
