North of Pittsburgh Utah Permit Class
Would anyone else be interested in a Utah Permit class north of Pittsburgh?
Cranberry would be a central area for the Butler / Beaver / North Hills / Wexford contingent.
Post here to show your interest!

UTAH Permit Course discounts for PAFOA paying members and registered users
The info below has previously been posted in the PAFOA Club ("members") sub-forum.
UTAH Permit Course discounts for PAFOA paying members and registered users
(current pricing guaranteed 1/1/09 through 3/31/09)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit course Instructor, covering 5+ states for the Utah program (hit 8 states last year). I am the only Utah Instructor listed by the state to cover multiple states.
I am from originally from Pittsburgh, PA and maintain a studio there from which to offer instruction. I travel out of Pittsburgh or my second home in southwest Virginia to cover other areas.
I am also a PAFOA approved vendor per PAFOA Founder / President Dan Pehrson, offering course fee discounts to PAFOA posters, PAFOA paid members and LEO's.
-- standard class fee $75
-- PAFOA posters (registered users) and PAFOA BRONZE members $65
-- PAFOA SILVER members and above $60
-- LEO's $50
Fingerprinting fees, normally $13 per the state, are waived for sizeable enough groups in general and for nearly all groups that travel to my Pittsburgh area studio.
("non-member" PAFOA posters have to have a registration date on or before a thread advertising a class or have registered 30 days prior to a class to receive the discounted $65 rate; paid PAFOA members of any level have no registration date requirement to receive the $65 or $60 rate)
I can travel to your group, basing my minimum head count upon my time, travel, fuel costs and hotel costs if any. Group minimum head count may vary from 6 to 20+ depending upon location. PM me with your address / zip code for a head count quote. I commonly cover all or part of PA, WV, VA, NC, TN, also OH, KY, SC.
I do accept groups of 6 or smaller at my Pittsburgh area studio and maintain a "wait list" for folks who cannot gather a sizeable group, "plugging" them into open slots at my studio or into other group sessions "on the road" IF the group allows outside attendees (many do not for liability or privacy reasons).
Course does NOT require live fire. Instructor brings 6 - 12 demo firearms. Clearance drills / stoppages / jams are covered using safe, dummy ammo.
Host a class at your gun club, office, garage, living room - no problem.
Course fee can be postdated 2 weeks or more so as to match your pay schedule / budget. PM me, I'll work with you, no problem.
You have up to 1 year following the class to submit paperwork and initial application fee ($65.25) to Utah, so you can spread your costs out a bit.
Utah renewals are currently $10 every 5 years, a simple 1 page form, no retraining or fingerprint resubmission required.
General questions can be answered in this thread.
More involved or specific items best handled by offering email contact info via PM.
My Pittsburgh area studio is located 1 1/3 miles from Interstate 79 exit 65 (Coraopolis / Neville Island exit). Weekday / weeknight sessions available upon request.
Any questions? please PM me for contact info ... stay safe everyoneLast edited by BCI Instructor; February 3rd, 2009 at 12:32 AM.

Re: North of Pittsburgh Utah Permit Class
I am interested, I'm in PGH, so if not North then at the Neville Island studio would be great for me.
Q's:
Do we get fingerprinted AT the class?
After the class is there anywhere else we need to go or do before we mail in our info and payment to Utah?

Re: North of Pittsburgh Utah Permit Class
No problem, welcome either way.
Assemble a small group and travel to the studio.
Assemble an intermediate sized group - split course at my studio over two consecutive days.
Assemble a large enough group and based upon your location and my minimum head count I travel to you.
Q's:
Do we get fingerprinted AT the class?
For the day of the class, you need:
-- a medium or fine BLACK ink pen and a notepad
-- soda / water + snack
-- CURRENT driver's license + any address update card
(internet printout of address update from PENNDOT website is acceptable at class)
-- any other permit(s) you currently possess
-- course fee made payable to me
You leave the class with:
-- class handounts and reference material for future use
-- completed Utah application including my endorsement and Utah State Seal
-- completed fingerprint card
After the class, here's what you do:
(Utah app has checklist on reverse as to what to do...)
-- Notarize app (usually $2 - 5, or free at your bank or state rep's office)
-- obtain 1 passport photo
(usually 2 for $5-8, available at CVS, Walgreens, FedEx/Kinko's Copies, some Post Office locations)
-- copy of driver's license, any address update card and any other permit(s)
-- check / money order, or debit / credit card info on app, for $65.25 app fee
-- 9 x 12 manilla envelope for above + print card
-- postage
(recommend Priority Mail or Certified w/ Delivery Tracking / Confirmation)
Mailed app goes to a security facility first as do all Utah state correspondence. (Bomb sniffing dogs, anthrax check, etc...). This takes 5 - 10 days.
Packet is then forwarded to the permit division for processing.
FIRST thing they do is process your payment.
Once Utah processes your financials, the clock starts ticking.
Permit generally returned to you 55 - 65 days after your app fee is cashed.
hope this helps ...

Re: North of Pittsburgh Utah Permit Class
I'm currently on the road for classes / travel in NC, TN & VA.
I will be in office in Pittsburgh from roughly March 4th through 18th.
Closed dates:
-- Weds Mar 4
-- Thurs Mar 5
-- Sun Mar 8
-- Sat Mar 14 (State College, PA - a few slots may still be open)
-- Weds Mar 18
I will have a few slots available / "open to the public" at my Pittsburgh area studio on:
-- Saturday March 7th
-- possibly Sunday March 15th
-- most weekdays / weekday evenings during that timeframe
For folks who cannot make a Fri / Sat / Sun session, I am open to weekday courses with start times between 9 am and 1 pm, or to "splitting" the course over two AM or PM sessions, consecutive or otherwise. This applies only to courses at my Pittsburgh area studio (just off of I 79 exit 65 - Coraopolis / Neville Island).
I have a bit of a backlog on my waiting list, the "oldest" folks on the list have been emailed. Depending upon responses, I will then attempt to contact folks from this thread and from the PAFOA Club (paying PAFOA "members") thread who have _already_ PM'd me. I will then attempt to contact any "newer" PM's / requests.
Review earlier posts in this thread for details.
PM me if you wish to be placed on the wait / contact list.
If you have _already_ PM'd me, no need to do so again ...
Thank you for your interest ... stay safe
