    Default Overall Best Knife?

If you could only have one knife, which knife would it be?

Still Have yet to decide which one I would chose.

Its not really a realistic quastion, you have as much money as you need to buy this knife, and it would be for overall use. Something you could use to open a box, skin a dear, or defend yourself with in the case of SHTF. It has to be the do all end all knife. Remember, this is just theoretical.

that's like asking what the best pistol, shovel, or coffee mug is.

what's the best knife? well, that depends on a few things:

#1 - what are you gonna do with it? chores, self defense, eating steak? when you buy a knife, you need to know what it's primary use will be.

#2 - what do you wanna spend, $10, $50, or over $100? a good knife is not cheap, and a cheap knife is not good. you can get a quality knife for $20, mimimum, but it will limit how big it is, what it can be used for, and what type of blade it is.

look at it this way: if you need a gun for self defense and everyday carry you don't need an AR15. on the flipside, if your survival depends on getting food in the wilderness, you'd be better off with a long gun than a pocket pistol.

if you need something to carry everyday, and don't really need it for self defense purposes, or just need something as a back up for your gun, a pocket folder will probably be enough. if you're out in the woods a lot, camping or hiking or hunting, you'll probably want a sturdy fixed blade. you might even be satisfied with getting a multi-tool with a knife blade. it really just depends on you.

here are some knives i carry; i rotate them every once in awhile, just to keep things fresh:

my karambits, a Mantis, a 5.11, and a Spyderco. they're good for either utility or self defense. not much good for steak, though. $30, $80, and $60.

my HideAwayKnife (HAK). it's good for self defense, and boxes. also not good for steak. about $70.

Spyderco Chinook II. it's good for everything, except chopping wood. around $100.

C.R.K.T. Plan B. it's a nice, small fixed blade, good for chores, and for self defense. less than $30.

from top to bottom: Cold Steel Mini-Kukri, C.R.K.T. Hissatsu, and Winchester Bowie. the Kukri is great for camp chores, and for fighting. the Hissatsu is designed for one thing: to kill people. the bowie is, well, a bowie. but this one is a piece of crap. $75, $60, and $20.

part of my collection, in one shot.

    Just one knife.
Would have to be the classic ka-bar.

Nearly the same thing but a bit smaller......the air force survival knife.

can opener, pry bar, knife, hammer
what else you want to do with a knife?

None of those can turn screws or open cans of food.

Well, maybe but not as good as a multi tool.
