Stripped AR lowers have been hard to come by lately. I think there's a lot of panic buying due to some of the bills that have been introduced in congress.

I just picked up a Stag lower for $119 from Mooney's Firearms in Round Rock, TX. I never ordered a stripped lower before and they shipped my order as soon as they received a copy of my dealer's FFL. I was very impressed with their customer service.

I've never built an AR on any other lower but DPMS and Bushmaster. I've heard lots of good things about Stag lowers in discussions online and I thought I'd try one. From what I've heard, Stag lowers are just as good as Bushmaster or DPMS.

I still have to collect a few more parts so it'll be a while until I get my rifle built, but I'll post a full report once I get it to the range.

for the most part, lowers are lowers...as long as they ared forged and not cast. i don't think anyone (or at least not anyone who you've likely heard of) makes cast lowers anymore, though.

it's just a chunk of aluminum beaten into shape and then some holes are drilled in it. i guess the holes could be drilled in the wrong location, but that doesn't seem to really happen.

in fact, there are only a few companies that actually make lowers...and then they sell the blank ones to everyone else who puts their own logos on them.

there was a list on AR15.com or somewhere not so long ago...there are only like 4 or 5 companies that actually make the lowers while there are dozens that stamp and sell them.

Are you looking for stripped or full lower? If full what kind of stock?

thanks for the info. I dont really have the patience with ordering all the parts and putting them together. Odds are I'll lose a spring and cuss up and down and never find it.. Thanks though.

It's not that bad. One trick I learned when putting in the tiny springs and detent pins is to put the lower in a ziplock bag first. This way when you slip up, and you will slip up, the tiny detent pin isn't sent flying across the room never to be seen again.

It probably took me an hour to put my first lower together. Now I could do it in about 20 minutes.

All my builds are Stags these days. Great price and identical to a RRA. I like the tight fit.
