I filled in ZOMBIES on the form. The officer behind the counter looked at me dead-serious and asked, "What are zombies?" I mustered all the surprise that I could and told him, "You know—the walking dead!" I'm not sure if he was laughing with me or at me, but he was laughing and said that other folks involved in the approval process might not find that very funny. So I changed it to self defense. At least I'll be getting the plastic kind that won't smudge if I get covered in Boomer vomit! Then I can say, "I told you so!"

When I applied I ask the deputy taking the application, she said only put self defense because that is the only reason we grant a license, so I put self defense.

In a 'shall issue' state there is no need for a reason! If you apply for the license and are not otherwise determined to be ineligible they have to issue. Not "they have to issue.... if you have a good enough reason."

The deputy should be schooled that they "grant" the license because PA law says they have to do so.

Just curious...protection is not one of the reason listed on the application...self defense is. Did you write in protection for "other" or mark self defense?

I just got my Allegheny County LTCF a couple weeks ago. On the application I checked 'Self-Defense' but my card says 'Protection' in reason to carry.

It has come up many times on the board that even when people put other things down, they just put self defense in anyways....its doesn't really matter...

Exactly. It will say self-defense/protection regardless. IIRC, they just put it on to see what the main interest area in them is. I just check all but "employment"..

Some put "sporting and protection" on them. I think my dad's last one said that yet, but mine, and his renewed one both have "self defense" on them now.
