AR-15 Gas ring removal/installation?
I have new gas rings to install on my bolt, but I don't know how to remove the old ones or install the new ones. I have a set of 3 rings, and I also have one of the one piece Mcfarland design sets.
So,
1. How do I remove the old rings?
2. How do I install a one piece gas ring?
3. How do I install traditional gas rings?

Re: AR-15 Gas ring removal/installation?
1. Just hold one side with your thumb and then pry them out one at a time with a scribe, awl, etc and pull them back over the bolt tail.
2. Sorta like a keyring. Push it over the tail of the bolt and just sorta pry one end out a bit and get it into the gas ring groove then just spin it the rest of the way in.
3. Basically the same, go over the tail of the bolt and start one end in and work the rest of it around, repeat.Warning: I may not read responses to OP before posting

How easy do they snap or come out of shape? How often do they need replaced?
Just wondering?

As long as you have a scribe or something else small and pointy they should come out pretty easy. I'm not too sure about replacement by round count intervals though.
