Increase in out of state purchasing questions
There has been a sudden increase in out of state purchasing questions about coming into Pa to purchase a firearm and taking it back to another state.
Call me paranoid but some of the questions seem to have the smell of bait all over them.
What are the ramifications of incorrect answers?
What are the possibility that these are fishing expeditions by NJ, NY, and other LEO’s for entrapment?
What are the possibility that they are fishing expeditions by anti’s to use against us?
Just thinking out loud.

Re: Increase in out of state purchasing questions
Paranoid,
Every time I see a strange question about some legal issue by a new member, my first thought is that it may be as you say. But then after thinking about it for awhile, I think it may just be what it is. A new guy/gal, possibly even new to the intraweb, asking a question. We the people have not only the right but the responsibility to hang tyrants for treason.

Re: Increase in out of state purchasing questions
IANAL,
But would you not have to be directly involved to be swept up in a case? What is your gain?
We say we are giving opinions (IANAL) and not legal advice. We are not getting paid for advice so there is no contract.
I suppose it could be argued for some civil liability if you yielded an opinion, someone actually did something based on that and was arrested and found guilty of a charge but I don't think that would fly.
On the otherhand, if someone said they wanted to buy/sell with you and you agree to meet and it is an illegal transaction, then you would have a problem.
Then again, the government might hang you on a weak or made-up case anyhow. Thankfully, that never happens in the US !It is you. You have all the weapons that you need. Now fight. --Sucker Punch

Re: Increase in out of state purchasing questions
I've been thinking that it's mostly people who have been caught up in the Great Panic Gun Buy of 2008/2009, but find themselves in anti-gun states. So they're trying to get guns in Pennsylvania before, uh, Obama sends his hoardes of gay Muslims to steal everyone's guns and souls.

Re: Increase in out of state purchasing questions
I agree, some of them do smell bad but they could easily be innocent questions by someone who is confused or has been misinformed and wants to know the truth.
From what I've seen in the line of responses to those questions it seems like most everyone is trying to give advice that will set the OP straight and keep him/her from doing something illegal.
Yes, there's the chance that there's someone trying to see if they can get bad advice to use for whatever finger pointing they may want to do, but for the most part we have a group of good respectable people here trying to give good advice.
I just had another thought. Aside from bait/setup, or innocent questions, there may be people looking to find loopholes thinking they can somehow come to Pa. to buy guns legally and take them across state lines to circumvent the laws in their own state. If that's the case I still have to say that the members who respond are telling it like it is and trying to keep everyone informed of the laws and consequences of breaking them.Last edited by mauser; January 10th, 2009 at 02:14 AM. Re: Increase in out of state purchasing questions
Well.... as someone who recently asked for info on gun shops in PA, I'd like to provide some feedback. I live in PRNJ (for now). Last year I got my first handgun... I went to every shop listed within a 30 mile radius and what I found was a very consistent "I could give a sh@# about your business" attitude from every shop. On top of that is the fact that every shop charges an average of $60 - $125 more for the same gun than the rest of this God fearing nation. Maybe it's their increased cost of insurance and state licenses... Maybe it's because they know that it will cost about that much to transfer a cheaper purchase from another state... Either way they gouge the heck out of ya.
So when it comes to long guns, Federal law gives me an option to spend my hard earned money elsewhere. I'd prefer to spend it in a state that honors the 2nd amendment or is at least still part of the United States.

My money's on Mayor Bloomberg. He signed up here under 50 different user names to try to set up straw purchases and interstate FTF deals. However, Elliot Spitzer is probably doing most of the actual posting and leg work for him since hasn't found a replacement whore... er..."escort."
