Decent club near Pottstown?
All,
I live in Berks county a few miles out of Pottstown, and I've been looking for a club to join. I'd like to be able to shoot pistol, rifle, and shotgun (clays). Any suggestions/information on clubs that are currently acceping new members would be greatly appreciated.

I would pass on joining University in Reading...I heard they might go under...because 3/4 parts of the club are surrounded by developements.
There is a gun club in boyertown. Just give me a call when you want to go shooting...I'll take you to my club.

Which club do you belong to? I used to belong to LP, but I've moved since then. Hence the reason for my search.

I belong to Elverson. It is 15 minutes from Pottstown. The public range is nearby too, but I would advise to wear body armour on the weekends. Too many wannabe gang bangers go to the public range. Plus, make sure you obey the rules...only 3 rounds per mag.

Hamburg has a club, don't they? I belong to Fleetwood.
3 rounds per mag? Eww.

The 3 rounds per mag is because it is on State Game Lands. That is the rule for all public ranges.

Well there are a few, not sure what direction away from Pottstown you live, but I live in Bechtelsville, close to Boyertown. There is Water and Wings in East Greenville, which is a nice outdoor club, a bit pricey, so go when you want to shoot for the day. I believe it goes out to 500 yards. They also have clay shoots and the like. Also there is Shimmersville indoor range, in Shimmerville on Rt. 100 going towards Emmaus/Allentown. Those are the two I frequent, when I get time. There is the Topton gun club in Topton, which has a nice set of ranges, and does a LOT of IPSC and such shooting matches...not sure about clays. They do ahve an archery range though. But alas, there aren't any outdoor full auto ranges. Shimmersville will allow fullauto in handgun calibers.
I forgot, there is also a range in Oley that I used to belong to. It was like $15 a year in dues, and they had clay shoots and everything, but I haven't been there in years. It is near the Kings IGA.Last edited by SigForLife; September 16th, 2006 at 05:18 PM.

I didn't know that there was a range in Elverson. I'm in Douglassville, so that wouldn't be too bad for me.
Sig - Do you have any more information on the Oley range? That's a hot ten minutes from the house.
