American made products
I'd rather buy from an American company with products MADE IN USA. But a foreign company that insources to America and hires Americans is alright with me.

Re: American made products
My first preference is always American made by an American company. That being said I will still buy American made by a foreign company, at least some of the money stays here even if most of the profits go overseas.

Re: American made products
Problem is that the US standard of living to so high we price ourself out of any sort of 'reasonable' production cost.
Example: for $6.99 (on e-bay no less) I bought a part for my computer. A PCI SATA card for more disks. The card supports open standards (aka it has excellent LINUX support) and its $6.99 SHIPPED to my door.
No other US company has shipping for less than that. They charge $40 for the same card, and then wack on $10 shipping.
So... am I un-Americian? I hope not... but holly shit.. being poor in the US is being rich in any other country.

Re: American made products
I would love to buy USA only.
I tried it years ago, and found that I could not find many products at any price, there just is not much manufacturing in the US any more.

I was at Zippo and Case on Saturday and dropped a few bucks. Still American for the most part.

Re: American made products
I'm value-oriented, so I buy from whoever makes the best product in its class for the price in my affordability range. I am a tightwad extraordinaire, so I weigh most of my purchases as if I were buying a new house or car.
My general preferences:
Tools- generally American or German, but Horrible Fright has it's place
Cutlery- American, Canadian, Irish
Precision steel- Swiss, German
Bearings- American, Japanese, French
Clothing & Shoes- Mostly have American owned-usually Asian or central American assembled, but I favor Canadian owned/assembled.
I'm tickled if I can find American owned/assembled without paying big bucks (doesn't exist).
Non-shoe Leather & skins- American, Australia/NZ, Italian
Electronics- Japanese if I can help it, otherwise American owned -assembled in Taiwan, China
Motorcycle- Japanese
Cars- European, but I buy used anyway.
Watches- Swiss Mechanical, German mechanical with Swiss movement, Japanese Mechanical
Pens & Pencils- Japanese, German, American, korean
Beer- American semi-microbrew, Canadian
Wine- American (Pennsylvanian)
Liqour and Liquers- American

Re: American made products
American made by an American company is my first choice.
American made by a foriegn company is 2nd.
Following that I would rather purchase a product from an allied country than support the People's Liberation Army. I would be much happier if I could avoid buying Chinese made stuff completely.

Re: American made products
I have about half a dozen Zippos, including a sterling silver one.
My favorite knife is my Case amber bone hobo.
With its rustic accents and modern elegant design, it allows me to dine in class while camping, or during any impromptu feast.
My favorite knife that's "just a knife" is my Grohmann #2 Trout & Bird knife from Pictou, Nova Scotia.
