Default Winchester 1300 and 1200 question

    Okay actually two questions.
Does anyone know where you can reasonably get a shorter barrel for one of these models. I hate to spend two hundred dollars on a barrel for a gun I spent two hundred one.
    Second question.
Do the 1300 barrel fit the 1200 and vice versa?

Can't guarantee it. But I was told that just about anything that will go on the 1300 should fit the 1200 too. Just what I was told. Can't vouch for this info.

Good luck finding cheaper barrels. Winchester parts dried up a year or so ago.

1200/1300 parts interchange 99% of the time. The action bars to bolt connection design was changed and thats about all I can remember.

    The 1200 was a 2 3/4" gun and the newer 1300 was a 3" gun.

    And yes I guarantee it.

I have a Winchester Ranger 120...and I too have been looking for a shorter barrel. I am pretty confident that models 120, 1200 and 1300 have barrels that work for all...just not the 1200 Defender.

You might be able to find a 22" barrel...keep checking Gun Broker. I missed one for sale that went for $40.

I have decided to take my 120 to a local gun smith and have the barrell shortened to 18"--cost is $50.

Thumbs up Re: Winchester 1300 and 1200 question

Adenn, My 1300 came with 3 chokes. I'm curious...When you get it shortened, can you still use the different chokes?

I love this gun and IMO although cheap to obtain, it was not cheaply made. It's a pretty gun, goes bang everytime and action is staying tight. I don't have a problem dropping the extra coin for additional barrels for this gun. It's worth it to me.

You have the Winchester Winchoke system...comes with full, modified and improved cylinder chokes. I have it also on my 120. I doubt if I could get the shortened barrel machined to accept them again...and it would probably be pretty expensive to do so. I believe they make a 22" vented barrel with the winchoke system...but it is expensive...I believe $200+.

The 1300 is a great gun. I bought my 120 in 1986 to go goose/duck hunting. I did not have a shotgun that would accept a 3' shell...so got the 120 for $140. Nothing fancy...but it works fine.

I want a home defense shotgun and decide to try to covert my 120...rather than buy a new/used one (like a Mossberg or Maverick). I started looking for barrels...but the best I found were some 22" barrels with rifle sights. I decided I wanted to go with an 18" barrel...so cutting it down seemed the best way to go.

I will continue to look for barrels...I will get a replacement 28" barrel for the 120 if I can find it cheap.

I will keep the chokes....I have Winchester 1500 semi-auto that has the Winchoke system...but I lost those chokes on a pheasant hunt many years ago.

Good luck with your search....look on Gun Broker and search for Winchester 120, 1200 and 1300 barrels.
