    Default During the Wait...

Say I get a Glock 17, and want to register it as an AOW, i'm pretty sure I could do that myself, right? I wouldn't need to go through an FFL.

Or would I? And during the processing time, would the G17 have to stay with the FFl till the Stamp comes back? What I'm wondering is, while the paperwork is in the works, can I still shoot it as a Pistol?

Yes, to manufacture an AOW you fill out the F1 and send it in with your tax payment. If you are using an existing title-1 firearm to manufacture the title-2 firearm you put that info on the form.

While you wait for the approval you still have a title-1 firearm to do with as you would any other non-NFA piece.
Do NOT convert the firearm to the AOW until you have the approved form and tax stamp back.

    That's it.

Just to clarify, would the Glock 17, new from the FFL, be a Title-1 Firearm? Or is filling out the Form 1 MAKE it a Title-1 firearm? If thats the case, is an AOW a Title-1 or 2? AFAIK, it's Title-2. So to take a new Glock 17, and make it an AOW, it has to go through the ATF twice? Once as Title-1, get approved, then file as Title 2? Oy.... I hope I'm wrong...

Whoah, slow down, your reading into stuff that isn't there

A Glock 17 is a title-1 firearm. An NFA registered AOW is a title-2 firearm.

Re-read my reply with that info and it should make sense

Fire... Why an AOW and not a SBR? While I don't necessarily understand why you would want to do this to a glock that fact is irrelevant. When applying for the form 1 your still paying the $200 registration fee weather it's an AOW or SBR. With the AOW you could put a foregrip on but with the SBR you could put the stock OR/AND the foregrip. Food for thought!

I thought an AOW was a $5 tax, not $200? The reason I chose AOW was because I wanted to turn a Glock 17 into a PDW, with the attachment that makes a Glock Mag into a VFG, and use 33 round mags for the main mags.

Transfer tax on AOW is $5... Making tax is $200.

I figured that you had not realized that it's a straight 200$ manufacturing fee vs the $5 transfer fee which is the whole reason I brought it up. good luck with your endeavor!
