Default S&W 686 Date of Manufacture??

    I recently bought a resold (possibly NIB?) S&W 686-3 4" barrel S/N BNTXXXX.

The gun came with full-underlug, Goncalo-Alves hardwood grips, and box--- including warranty, registration card and manual dated 2/92.

According to a Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_and_wesson_686) the gun was likely made between 2/92 and 1994, when S&W changed to Hogue grips.

As I do not have ready access to The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica and Rick Nahaus, can anyone give me a more precise date of manufacture?

Folks, any help you can give will be appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

    Stay well.

    February-March of 1993, per Supica & Nahas.

    You're the best Rule10b5!!

Thank you for such a quick response!!

To others who may be wondering--- yes, it is a pre-lock S&W; and yes, it has the smoothest S&W trigger-pull in SA or DA that I have felt since my old 4" Model 66.

Right now this is the only pre-lock S&W I have in my collection and is now at the top of the list as my favorite revolver.

    Thanks again Rule10b5!!

    Stay well.
