help with .22 quietness
hey guys,
I do not want to buy a suppressor right now (I don't have the cash for it let alone a ridiculous $200 stamp that gives me permission to exercise my 2nd amendment right... but that is another story).
I need to take care of some "critters" that keep scratching up my cars and tearing into my garbage. However, they only come out at night. My only neighbor is an 82 year old lady, and the last thing I want to do is give her a heart attack. SO...
What types of subsonic or other quiet .22 rounds would you recommend???
I would be shooting them out of a semi-auto Stevens 62/savage 64 rifle with a 22" barrel.
Thanks

Re: help with .22 quietness
DO NOT duct tape a soda bottle on the end of the barrel! Not only will it not work, you could end up in jail!
Any subsonic ammo will be quieter than supersonic ammo, but you'll just have to get what you can find, and try it in your rifle. Nobody can tell you how it'll perform in your gun. I can tell you that subsonic ammo is not that much quieter than supersonic, but it does make a difference. I found some at Dunham's that works pretty well in my Ruger MkII and MkIII.
Why not just warn the neighbor that you're going to do some pest control? She might even direct you to some other varmints that need killin'!Kevin Singleton, Potawatomi - {ZRT - Sector 4}

Re: help with .22 quietness
I picked up about 500 rounds at the gunshow here when it was still in the hockey center in harmar....that was over a year ago. Since my only .22 is a single shot...it's been taking me a while to burn through them. Worst that can happen is it squibs, I went through 50 rounds one at a time checking the barrel...not one stuck.

Re: help with .22 quietness
The US Constitution, nor any other document, declaration, proclamation, or bill,
does not give, protect, define, or guarantee a right to buy, sell, keep, or use a suppressor.
The right to own or use a suppressor is also not one of those "inalienable human rights"
that are discussed so frequently in these forums
Neither do you need a ridiculous $200.00 stamp to exercise your 2nd amendment rights.Last edited by skyjerk; February 13th, 2009 at 04:26 PM.
