Default How do you carry your 1911 Government?

I'm 5'10, and a mere 160 pounds; but bound and determined to conceal carry my full size 5" "government" Taurus 1911.

To save the next person searching, if you're 5'10, and 250 pounds, try here: http://forum.pafoa.org/concealed-ope...ur-1911-a.html

I think our body types are so different, that I'll ask the question again.

I'd imagine I'd have a preference for iwb. But, "it's a journey," so owb is not out of the question.

Obvious preference for some retention for one handed re-holstering.

p.s., if it matters, right hand strong side.

What do you guys like & use?

I'm 6' 230lbs, lately I've been carrying in a Don Hume IWB at 8 o' clock (I'm a lefty.) I also have a Tagua OWB that's being put away until I get a proper belt. And I have an MTAC on the way, should be here tomorrow, but I still need to buy a body for that one.

5-11, 205 lbs and I use a DeSantis Speed Scabbard (pancake) OWB under a jacket or sweater. Rides high and tight.

Being 5'9" and 125 pounds I feel your pain on this. I don't have a full size handgun yet, but i'm looking at a taurus 1911 as well and looking at options. So far what i've found is that alot of us "small" people like the hybrid holsters (leather with a kydex half shell) for any size pistol but especially full size because the leather back conforms to their body better while the kydex half shell keeps it 'thin' enough that it doesnt create alot of pressure against their body or a blatantly obvious bulge in their clothes.

I was once, just less than 2 years ago, 120-125lb @ 5'-9"(now 180-195lb). I carried my 1911 in one of those crappy kydex holsters until I found a Galco Fletch. Usually in the 3:00 to 4:30 position depending on if my back was killing me that day or not.

Now my 1911 is pretty much my mattress gun and not really carried. ...well except for those tin-foil hat days when I go out with like 4-6 guns on my person.

One question: Where do you get TIN foil? All I find is aluminum foil and it doesn't block the alien's thought-control rays.

Grandma has a surplus of tin-foil in her basement(or used to til I grabbed a couple rolls). Its right beside the entrance to the old nuke/tornado/Martian invasion bunker.

imho i wouldnt be carrying a taurus 1911, but with that said, i carry my 1911s a myriad of ways, OWB, IWB, 3:30, 4:30 etc, SOB, from 4.25" to 5", ive never had a problem concealing a 1911, 1911s are MUCH smaller (thinner), which is what one would really expect to see printing is due to the thickness of a gun, than your normal Glock, XD etc. you should have no problem concealing a 1911 on your belt, no matter where you carry it, and youll just have to find out for yourself where its comfortable for you to wear it. that is the correct way to carry the most comfortable for you, if it isnt comfortable you wont do it.

I agree. I just assume there are people out there with a similar body type as me, who have tried different things, and could give an opinion of what works for a our body type, and what does not.

I would assume the guy in the other thread, weighing a hundred pounds more then me, has a very different body type and as such does things a different way. He would look for tips from people who are similar to him, and those tips wouldn't be as applicable to me.

Where there is no right way and wrong way, surely there are better and worse ways given my shape and size that others already know from similar experiences.
