Default Any info on jennings j22?

I am thinking of buying a j22 from a friend for $50. I know they are cheaply made guns, but just want it for a 22 plinker and its cheap and like new. I know they are particular to certain ammo, and am told with some polishing they can be pretty reliable. Any info will help.

I personally would buy something better..Use the $50 towards a good used 22 pistol..You will probably not have too much fun with the Jennings J22 (believe me, I have one) .I've had good luck with the Taurus 22 revolvers and Ruger autos..A used Browning or S&W would also do the trick.

Forget it. A friend of mine always carried one when we hung out in the PA wilds. It was more likely to go "click", than "bang", when he fired it....pretty much a 50%-50% thing. My Beretta 21A never malfunctioned.

I had one that I picked up used for $35. I dumped it for $20. It is a piece of crap. It doesn't fire reliably, it jams, and it isn't accurate for more than a few feet. It isn't a fun gun to shoot at all. Probalby the worst purchase you could make - my opinion after owning one.

I have to go along with the crowd on this. I have one and it's basically a single shot, because something fails on it everytime. I read about the ammo theory, and have tried every .22 lr round I could find and nothing helped. I had to do some amatuer smith work on it because the metal is soft and the throat of the barrel got dinged on a misfeed. It actually worked for a while after that, but after maybe 50 rounds it was back to misfeeds, failure to feeds, stove piping, the ejector catch not catching. So basically, I wouldn't give it to an enemy. and I wouldn't turn my back on this so called friend who's offering to sell it to you ;-).

There is a saying that you get what you pay for, but for this particular gun a don't think that's even true if you pay $50 for it. I keep mine around to poke at from time to time to see if someday I can get it firing reliably again, but I whole heartedly believe you'd be wasting your money if you bought one.

Buy it for $50 and when they have the guns buy back programs in your area you can double up your money...
Maybe not... You have to do the transfer from your friend and that's $20

I tried that, but after the cops stopped laughing, they said the streets are actually safer if a J-22 ends up in the hands of a bad guy, and they refused to take it.
