Re: What is the best "modern" .45 combat pistol out there?
Here is a shocker coming from me... Glock 21 or the SF. 13+1 rounds of to hell and back reliability. They require very little lube and there for will attract less sand. They are reliable and will withstand just about anything our soldiers can put them through. Accurate as just about anything else out there. They are polymer so they are light, and every ounce we can save our service men and women from having to carry the better.

Heya red, do us both a favor, start a new thread on this.
I think it would be a good discussion tyo have, but once folks like Synergy, Lycan, you, myself and a few others get in on it, it's going to dominate this thread. PM me the link or I'll look for it later on.

Re: What is the best "modern" .45 combat pistol out there?
If I'm taking this thing to Iraq I know damn well my rifle is the weapon I will worry about the most. The handgun is only for fighting my way back to a rifle.
It has to work, has to be accurate, and for me...It has to hold a bunch of ammo.
The Glock 21, XD or M&P would all be fine, along with the Sig and a few others.
I would pick the G21 simply because I ran the living hell out of mine and it ran like a top. I never "torture tested" mine, but I treated it kinda rough and it never failed me. Mine was my fishing gun, and it spent many hours submerged under both fresh and saltwater. No rust, never jammed and never misfired.

Gen. Geoff:"Tell that to Elite Ammunition. They make 5.7x28mm ammo that exceeds the capabilities of even the "law enforcement only" stuff that FN sells."
I know. I carry a magazine full of Elite's ammo.

Re: What is the best "modern" .45 combat pistol out there?
Given the choice between a Sig P220 and an HK USP45, I chose...both. I did get the Sig first. It fits my hand better then the HK. The HK has a higher intimidation factor. It can also mount a light/laser up forward, which the Sig cannot (for now). Which is better, it doesn't really matter.

I have each, and if you get your hands on an early model P 220 I can assure you that you will forget about the USP. Night sights are an option on the 220. I like to keep things simple.
