Handgun fees
I turned 21 on the 9th and I am planning on purchasing some type of handgun. On top of the price tag visible at a gun store, what can I expect to pay? I was looking at glocks for ~$509. Should I expect to pay around $550-$600 or does it depend on what store you go to?

Re: Handgun fees
You will also pay sales tax, the dealer's transfer fee, and the PICS check. Transfer fees are in the range of 25-50 bucks depending on dealer and PICS costs the dealer 2 bucks, so don't let them charge ya 20 for it.

You would also need to pay for the instant check. It varies from shop to to shop. You can expect anywhere from $15.00 to $50.00.

Re: Handgun fees
I normally buy my guns online. So I pay for gun, shipping(usually 15-30bux) no sales tax if its' seller is out of state, then my local gun shop charges me $20 to receive gun/title xfer. When I do buy from him, I pay for gun, PA sales tax then $2 for credit check. I find I pay less overall doing it online.

Re: Handgun fees
You can pretty well consider double up the numbers...
No kidding, every time I buy a gun, I figure i need double the price of the gun before I am satisfied...
Things to consider.
- PICS./nics
- Transfer fees.
- Local tax.
- Some times amusment tax also.
- Sales Tax.
- Holster(s)
- bullets (I generally buy bulk)
- Do you have what is needed to clean this gun?
- Case (I hate those ones they come with)
- Maybe grips
- maybe new sights.
- more bullets
- Gas to get to the range real quick .
- Targets.
- Damned, I liked that other holster too!
- Wow did you look at those boots?
- Oh well I am here anyways, might as well pick up some 12 Gauge too...

Re: Handgun fees
If you purchase the firearm from a dealers stock (new/used) most dealers do NOT charge a PICS fee on top of a purchase from them. Some do. It cost the dealer $5 ($2 for pic phone call and 3 for surcharge remittance)
They typically only chanrge a "transfer" and/orPICS fee when you buy elsewhere (internet, etc) and he the gun transferred through them._________________________________________

Re: Handgun fees
When I bought my Makarov it was $180. Out the door with some Ammo and all the required checks and a few other things I think I spent $237 that day but like stated before it varies from shop to shop. I'm sure if it is a local shop they would be more than happy to tell you what the cost out the door would be so you can budget it better.

Re: Handgun fees
I almost ALWAYS see dealers add the $5. I wouldn't buy from a dealer who charges you more than (1) sales tax and (2) $5 for PICS and state surcharge. If they do, it's just pure profit.
